Anyone may correct me on this but, I think it is the mic for the voice control.

That is the intake for the interior temperature control system. If you shut off the car, you can put your ear next to that vent and you will hear a small fan running. That is pulling in a little bit of air to get an accurate temperature reading of the interior.

Thanks, Thermo. I was afraid you were gonna say that. I wanted to use that hole to mount a phone holder. :-]

And Reysl, thanks for trying. :-) THe mic is in the overhead console.

Thermo's right, and they do get very dirty, it's a good idea to give the sensor a clean now and again.

So, that means I have another item to keep clean when I return home in July. Thanks for the correction Thermo.

For now, it is pretty cold were I am in Afghanistan.

I was there in summer 2010 where it reached a high of 56 celsius!

The microphone is external, Pre 2005 it went into the overhead console, it now sits on the side of the driver. Very good quality too, much better than the internal ones in the overhead console.
