well i have both the xk8 and the xtype and i would have the xk8 anyday over the x type. x type is more of a daily driver xk8 is the sunday car in my opinion. you must know x types have weak transmissions so be ready for a repair at some point. you might get lucky and not have any problems. also check car fax and maintanace records before you buy. both cars are classy and fun to drive, as for me no problems with the x type.

They are two completely different cars. The XK is a 2-seat coupé or convertible sport car while the X-Type is a compact AWD entry level car. The only thing they have in common is the interior look, which is usually very similar from one Jag to the other.

I wouldn't buy a XK because I live in the Eastern part of Canada, so we get tons of snow. I don't wanna buy such an expensive car, only to end up having to store it 6 months per year. The X-Type is cheaper and a much better choice in my case.

The X-Type is a direct competitor to a BMW 3xi. It comes with a choice of 2.5L and 3.0L V6. It is AWD so it drives very well in the snow with winter tires, and it has great traction on dry surface with performance tires. It is a compact car so there isn't too much room in the back. The trunk size is very decent for its size. It has its weak spots but fortunately they are generally well known, so they are not too hard to fix or prevent. It has one weak spot that can be very costly, and it is the powertrain. Specifically the tranny and transfer case. If you buy a used X-Type, make sure it has been serviced regularly. There is a kit that you can buy from a member here (or build your own) to change the transfer case oil, which is something that you are not supposed to do (the transfer case is "sealed for life"), but is something that will help keep your transfer case alive.

The XK comes with a V8 or V8 + supercharger so it is much more powerful than the X-Type. It is a 2-seat/2-door car so space is very limited. Just like other Jags, besides the X-Type, it is RWD so it is a real sport-ish car and drives like one. I have driven one before but never owned one so I don't know how reliable it is. One thing is sure, parts will be more expensive to replace than they will be on the X-Type, even though X-Type parts aren't exactly cheap either. The XK is a real Jag while the X-Type shares its platform with the Ford Mondeo/Coutour.

Hopefully that helped a little bit!

like he said xk8 is more expensive to own and run, personally living in california both cars a fun to drive. the xk8 take the win though. this is just my opinion, so really take in consideration what you need in the car.

The X-Type was born in 2001/2002 and it's had optional navigation systems already at that time I'm sure.

The XK I have no idea, sorry. Probably before the X-Type since the XK is Jaguar's flagship.
