Hello all,
I am really confused by this..Please kindly see the attached video:

Also, the charge indicator has turned on and steering wheel gone really stiff. No pun intended.
Any help would be appreciated..
Many thanks,
Yaseen

I experienced something similar to this with my car burping out the intake when I had an exhaust lobe go bad on my camshaft in my sbc. But that is old tech, not entirely sure how relevant it is to your situation.
Yaseen, it could be a sticking valve. It sounds like to me that you have some pressure from the cylinder making it back to the intake, resulting in that thumping sound. As to what is causing the valve to stick open, it could be a valve guide that isn't getting good lubrication, a bent valve, a lobe on the cam shaft that is bad. Granted, I am thinking something more in line with a guide that is sticking is your more likely situation since it is random. A truely mechanical "failure" would be more rhythmical.
As for your charge indicator and power steering having issues, assuming a single fault here, the only thing that it would be is a slipping serpentine belt. This is where a simple check of the belt should give you the answer to that.

Don't know about the noise, but battery light and no power steering means a broken serpentine belt. To get to the belt you'll need to raise car and remove the right front wheel to get to the access panel in the wheel well. You'll need a special serpentine belt tool to actuate the tensioner when replacing the belt. On many cars the serpentine belt can be easily replaced without getting underneath the car; not so with the X Type.

You can get a new belt, its a long one, from rockauto.com

As long as the pulley goes on properly and is secured properly then you should be fine. Check to make sure it is still in line and not bent or angled funny. While you are playing with pulleys, I would check to make sure that all of the accesories that feed off the serpentine are not siezed or partially inhibited. Any excess load is bad.
Yaseen, based on the pic, it looks like you need a new A/C compressor. the pulley on your current one has come off and most likely will mean that your compressor is toast. This would also explain the battery light and loss of power steering.
As for the noise, I would get the compressor fixed and see if your noise is still there. It may be that the noise that you were hearing was the belt catching and causing things to suddenly move, resulting in a transferring noise in the engine. If you still have the problem, then lets see what sort of options we have then.

Yaseen, please reread my post #4 in this thread. You've got a problem with the serpentine belt or the components that are driven by it. Only a thorough inspection with the road wheel and access panel off will you be able to see what the problem is exactly. Then can you order replacement parts and complete the repair. It's just like a doctor's visit: Exam, Diagnosis, Fix.

Hello guys,
I have free parts and garage repair with AA, so I have decided to send into a garage. It is definitely the belt and the components. Hopefully it should all be working later on today.
I am just wondering what made it fall off like that..Pothole perhaps?
Many thanks,
Yaseen

Thank you guys for your help! I have sorted it all out - all working fine but now I have got another problem.
The car starts fine, I drive off and it suddenly dies! What may be the reason of this?
Any solutions? New battery? New alternator? Any fellow Jag Owners experienced this same thing?
