hi all just finished repairing my gearbox and going to put back in car soon and i have the transfer case on the bench and need to know what oil to put in as i have drained the oil completely so 600ml will need to go back in i might fill with some thin oil and shake it about a bit then drain to clear any muck.

 

Factory uses 75W-140 GL5.

 

in my transfer case from day one i put in redline 75w 140

its been bullet proof since 2002

just my prefferance

 

To expand on 3lvis's advice, the original oil was Castrol SAF - XJ (a limited slip diff oil 75W-140) but now superseded by Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W-140.

Price online is about £15/litre but the Jaguar Main Dealers have the temerity to ask £50/litre. Then they wonder why they're call Main *******s!

 

I would prefer Liqui Moly or Motul over Castrol, they seem to have a better quality.
