I checked the internet and cannot figure out, what this part is called / Part number...
It's on the X-Type 2.5L 2004.
I would call it suspension of the transfer box or bushes of the transfer box: The rubber in the bigger bush is broken... I need to fix this somehow....
Hi Peter,
According to my parts listing its called a restrictor.
2.1L c2s38952
2.5 & 3l c2s38951.
The bushings are not serviced.
I think its designed to prevent the transfer case from twisting on acceleration.
David B.
c2s38951 - that's it (for my 2.5L), thanks. Now I can check what to do about it...
PS: Looks like you twisted the P/Ns around:
2.1L c2s38951 2.5 & 3l c2s38952
according to Britishparts.co.uk, anyway, I know now what I am looking for... thanks.
PS2: Apart from a price difference between those 2 parts I can actually not see any difference between those two...
PS3: And I found now out as well, that this part also goes by the P/N 1S71-6P082-AF, which is the Mondeo P/N. I compared prices and the cheapest was Aliexpress, I just ordered 2 of them for AU$140 (=price for both together), and that includes 10% Australian GST and postage. There is only 1 of those parts in an X-Type, but I have more than one X-Type. I also tried to find the bushing by itself (I am sure I could have swapped them with my hydraulic press), but this part does not exist. Until the new part arrives I will mend the broken rubber in the bushing by filing it up with black silicon - this should do for the technical check, which is imminent.

Reason: added PS's
The reason there are three part options Peter is the 2.1L petrol and 2.0L diesel use the violet coloured restrictor.
Both the 2.5 and 3.0L petrol use the yellow coloured restrictor.
The 2.2L diesel uses the brown coloured restrictor.
The colours differentiate the integrated bushing hardness that each assembly has.
The engineers felt it necessary to cater for the torque variance for each engine grouping being managed by the restrictors, considering it sufficient to produce several "dog bone" options to give the correct amount of support, whilst not transferring unwanted vibration into the chassis.
That's interesting, Mark.
Would you know, which colour P/N 1S71-6P082-AF is?
Anyhow: Whatever "colour" I ordered now, it will certainly be better than a dogbone with a torn rubber.
Plus, since mine is torn, maybe engineers got it wrong and the one they chose for the 2.5L was the wrong one and the Mondeo one is better?
PS: I am kind of confident that I ordered the correct (correctly coloured) part, as Britishparts gives me P/N c2s38952 for the 2.5L, and on Aliexpress they are selling the exact same part under both P/Ns: c2s38952 and 1S71-6P082-AF

Reason: added PS note
I can't be sure Peter, but the Mk3 Mondeo either came out as a 2.0L diesel or numerous petrol sizes (1.8, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0).
Guessing Ford would probably just use one mount across the entire engine range, whereas Jaguar engineers would probably take the development time to refine such parts to minimize vibration and noise transfer characteristics from the different power plants.
Yes, Mark, agreed.
But:
1. It gives me confidence that when I look for 1S71-6P082-AF on Aliexpress, I find parts with that P/N, which at the same time have the P/N C2S38952.
2. Any part that is not damaged (the big bushing in my dogbone was utterly broken thru - free rotation) is way better than the free rotating broken part - and it did not cause any problems - I just noticed the defect when crawling around under the car to do the much feared engine oil sump gasket change - very successfully.
