20's would be cool. I have mainly been looking at 18's but 20's would give it a cool look. Wondering if you lose a lot of power going up to 20" wheels? I know the 3 liter motor is not a powerhouse. I was thinking maybe 18"s would be more practical for performance. I am thinking of going with like a deep dish tuner rim.

Do you mean mass-wise? Don't buy heavy wheels?
As long as the outer diameter of the tire stays the same, the "gearing" stays the same. Bigger wheel, smaller profile tire, etc. Tbh I don't like massive wheels, they (or rather the low-profile tires they necessitate) tend to crap up the ride quality and in some cases start to verge on ridiculous in terms of appearance.

Also poses another question. Can I lower the car about 1" and still get good clearance. I want to stiffen the ride a bit.

Anything wheel related for the X has probably been tried by a member called Ex-Pat. If you do a search of him you will find out pretty much what will and won't fit on our cars. Not sure if he is still around these days as I haven't seen any posts from him in a while, but he is basically the Wheel Whisperer.
Ex Pat, if you ARE still around, you are long overdue to try a new wheel on your car.

I have 19x9.5s with a 40 offset and 245/35/19s. I have also lowered my car with KW coilovers. I had to do a LOT of fender work to get them to stop rubbing. Don't forget that its not just offset that changes where the wheel sits in relation to the fender but the width of the wheel combined with the offset. If you do go with 19s go with 225 35s and you'll be fine if you want to lower it a bit too, you might be fine with 235s but unless you really want the extra tire width for performance there is no point, and if you are worried about handling then get 18s, there are more options for performance tires. I also just got a set of Axis reverbs in 18x8.5 with a 45 offset and 18x9.5s with a 55 or 50 offset I don't remember, but they also have 1 inch adaptors to go from 5x108 to 5x114.3. The fronts have 225/40/18s and fit just fine but the rears have 255/35/18s and rub a little, even after all the work I did to fit the 245/35/19s. If you just want looks, go with 225s all around.

www.buywheelstoday.com isn't bad either, I ordered a set from them a few years ago. I went down to 18s recently because I thought the 19s were a bit big with the tire size I wanted and with how low my car is.

Hi,
I have an X-Type 3.0L SE 4dr (June 2001).
The Driver's Handbook (JJM 10 02 20/15) says: 16" alloys or 17" alloys. I bought the car with 18" alloys. Does that mean that the 18" alloys are NOT the recommended size by Jaguar for this particular X-Type 3.0L SE 4dr, please?
Thanks in advance,
Alexandre
