Wheel spacer sanity check and spec.
Hello forum,
My understanding is a 5mm spacer shouldn't be an issue. Agreed, Thermo, others?
I believe this is the correct size?

Is there another brand I should look at?
Thoughts, gentlemen?
Thank you!!!
Chris

Jag4, yes, a 5mm spacer should be just fine. I would not go much more than that on the stock studs and lugs. You start affecting the strength of the studs due to limited thread engagement.
I guess I have a question to ask back: Why do you feel that you need spacers? Trying to understand what you are attempting to do to see if there is maybe another way to get what you want without stressing anything. Keep in mind that ultimately, you want to keep the center of the rim in line with the center of the bearing (front to back on the car and vertically). You get too much of a difference between the center of the bearing and the center of the rim leads to excessive forces and a shortened bearing life.

I open to alternatives.
Jag4, why not simply step up to 235's when you get your next set of tires. This will push the tires out the 5mm that you are after and improve traction for better cornering. THis also keeps the alignment of the wheel and bearing. Now, I will admit that the 235's are literally as big as you can go. You may even notice a slight amount of rubbing on the inner liner of the fenderwell. But, that is very minimal. Sure, the rim is not pushed out the 5mm, but most people would not notice that. What they are going to see is the rubber at the metal of the car. just a point to ponder.
Eventually I might decide to replace the rims. I have so much money into this vehicle already - very happy with it for now - whats another 1K!
Alright - thanks Thermo!
Jag4, I did some looking and you are finding more than I can find at the moment. Because you are running a 16" rim, you can probably step up to a 235/50R16 and be just fine. I was running 235/45R17's on my X-TYpe. So, you stay at the R17 diameter or smaller, then you should be good.
