I'm pretty sure you are talking about the mesh grille.

No, 2006 was the mesh grille. I don't think there was a facelift before that. The only change is that the 3.0 models got chrome vanes in the grill, instead of black (not sure what year that happened...I think it was 2004)

AWD badge for back starting 2004. I much prefer my car w/o that badge and with the older steering wheel. They added aluminum bits to the steering wheel in 04 and that just looks out of place compared to the rest of the interior.

And I only seem to see x-types with mesh grills every once in a blue moon. Like a handful times a year. They must have really not sold well in 06 and 07...

Why did they add the AWD badge? They're still all AWD right?

Yes. Maybe they decided the whole world should know you are driving an AWD car? It was probably just so others know its awd, and then maybe they'd want to buy one too.

I like mine w/o the badge. So if I take off from a light in snow or rain and everyones still spinning their tires, they'll be like wtf how did he do that? lol

Maybe to brag that it comes standard in all x-types and not a upgrade option like it is with BMW and Benz of similar class?
