Who here has a code scanner / scan tool??
Hey guys,
We're trying to put together a database of guys that own code scanners / scan tools / PC interfaces that would be willing to help out other Jag owners diagnose their cars.
The thread is over in the S-Type section. If you're interested in helping, take a look.

You can buy these code scanners on Amazon for around $30. For anyone interested in having one of their own.

Do the more expensive ones do things that make them worth getting? Does this one pull all of the codes needed or do others pull codes for other systems on the car? Do we need another tool to reset our airbag system just in case I need that? Today my car seemed to stall out and the engine light blinked, but it did not stay on, so I thought I better get a tool. I'm going to do some reading now.
This will do more than any sub $400 handleld will.

Oh Boy!
That ElmScan 5 Compact USB OBD-II Scan Tool looks like JUST the ticket!!! I want it I want it I want it!!!
I bought a $200 scan tool the very first time I got a "Check Engine" light on my Jaguar, and it IMMEDIATELY paid for itself. Trouble is, it is cumbersome, and very hard to read in anything but the lowest of lighting conditions.
What I really want though is a way to crack into the cars various computer systems and flash the units like the Jag Dealerships do. At least, "fiddle" with the various parameters, like shift points.
Are there any true Geeks out there that have done this? Does anyone know how to break into the computers, maybe fiddle with them to the point one needs to put the car on a trailer and take it to a dealer to get everything re-set? Are there any Bootleg copies of the latest Jag software out there to play with?
In the meantime, the ElmScan 5 Compact USB OBD-II Scan Tool for under forty bucks looks like a great way to go. The included software looks very comprehensive and easy to use.
Thank you for the tip, George!
