Default Wierd, annoying problem....

I keep getting a "boot open" msg even though my trunk is closed. I'm in and out of the trunk a bunch during the day because of my job and I get this about 90% of the time, even though the trunk is closed. Sometimes it stays on even after slamming the trunk closed multiple times. Any ideas? Not a major problem, just annoying.

This is a known issue with some X's, there is a trunk closed switch in the lock mechanism..I think replacing it, is the only fix I've heard of...Nothing serious.

And/or a complete adjustment of the trunk lid, and striker. Has the vehicle ever been hit? If not, most likely the latch assy will need replacement. The 02 X had the problem latch. Some 03s, too IIRC.

Same thing happened to me. If you open the trunk on the right hinge there is a plastic button. Mine was a little loose. Just shimmed it up a little higher with a piece of thin cardboard. That took care of it. When it gets loose it sits just low enough so the switch doesn't trip. You could also maybe put a sticker n top of the switch to raise it up a bit. I agree, it was annoying.

I have the same problem. I will have to look for that switch. I was thinking it was the latch itself but this seems like a cheaper fix if it is not the latch.

Try pressing the trunk release button before
closing it. Sometimes the latch does not
release all the way. Thats what mine was
doing.

I looked on the hinge and I don't see any buttons. The two black spring things have both broken off. But I don't see how they would indicate that the boot is open.
Thanks for the advice. That is what I have been doing. Just pressing the release button before I close the boot. It gets the boot closed but the dash indicates that it is still open. I am still leaning towards replacing the latch itself. Unless anyone has any other ideas.

There is one of these buttons on each hinge. Here's a picture of what it looks like. If you do not have these that probably explains why you are getting the "boot open" message.

Those are spring loaded actuators. They
Help pop the boot open and are not
electrical switches. The problem is in
the latch an not with the actuators.
