Default wiring issue in headlights...sigh

Low beam headlight went out, took it to autozone for replacement bulb. Guy there said my bulb was good just had some wires that are loose...He wiggled some wires and headlight came on, and then went back off again...He tapped it with his pocket knife and now my interior lights wont come on when auto running lights are on. It appears there are some wires that are a little chewed up. Nobody will work on it except dealer and they want to put it on the diagonostic machine ($109 and hour) so its getting costly. Has anyone had experience with this and can help me save some money before im raped?

Hi Bdelgros,
Are any lights working and what happens on "auto".
It may be a connection or you want to check your fuses.
Regards and good luck , Stu

No lights in interior work when I have it set on auto, only headlights come on...Think im going to have to bite the bullet and get it put on diagnostic machine

I'm having a similar issue after a defective LED accent light in the high beam bucket blew some fuses. The thing with mine is that everything works in "Auto" but when I turn the headlights on manually nothing lights up except the headlights (no other exterior lights or interior lights). Even the "lights on" indicator on the dash doesn't illuminate. I'm going to try swapping out my headlight switch with another one.

I also had an issue with corrosion in one of my low beam sockets that was fixed by the dealer under warranty.

If I were you, I would make sure all the contacts are clean and replace any connectors that appear to be damaged/dirty. Then I would get a new headlight switch (roughly $50 on eBay) and see what happens

bdelgros, how are you with a multimeter. I can help you figure things out. Just need to know your experience level so I can tailor the checks to what you can handle. We can get you figured out.

On a side note, what sort of functions does your headlights have so I can make sure I am looking at the correct diagrams. Ie, do you have DRLs, AUTO headlights, if DRLs, do your side lights come on or stay off?

I had a driver's side side-marker light (orange) go out, and the headlamp go out. New bulbs did nothing. What I found is that there is a major conduit for the exterior lights on the driver's side, it's a plug with about 15 connections. To get to it you have to remove the plastic splash guard under the front bumper. Then use a flashlight and inspect the driver's side, you should see this plug assembly. For reference, to the lower right is the driver's side fog light assy.

Notice in the above pic that one of my black wires is broken. I reconnected that wire and both my dead headlight and side marker started working. Here is a pic after I pulled the plug out to work with it, and stripped the insulation back. You might have something like this going on, hope this helps.

In the pic below, I twisted a copper wire around the connection to hold it in place. Then I soldered it, and wrapped it with heat shrink tubing. Both headlamp and side marker worked after this fix. Your problem may not lie here, but it's good to know about the conduit for the exterior lights. Best of Luck!
