Default Wiring system

Hi does anyone know if the wiring system is the same for the 2.5 manual and the 2.5 auto ..ie would there be a input socket on a auto for a brake / clutch pedal switch. . The reason I am asking is because I have a 2002 2.5 manual and the body is rotten but have managed to get a 2004 2.5 auto with a solid body but knackered engine .. so plan on taking my engine and gear box and fitting in into the 2004

Based on the extra unused sockets I have found on my X-Type I would venture to say you should be OK. I believe they used one harness for the production run of the vehicles and just the unused plugs in place.
Have a look around under the dash for unused plug on both vehicles. You will probably find what you need.

I didn't see earlier that it was a 2004. You need to check the build date on the door. If it is January to March 2004 shouldn't be a problem. If it after March 2004 It has entirely different wiring harness. They changed the harness after March. The fuses don't match up the locations are different and they probably changed a few plugs.

Mark, something to think about, when you say a 2004 X-Type, was it manufactured on/before March 2004? The reason why I ask is jaguar made a few changes to the wiring of the car after March 2004. So, if you get a later 2004 vehicle, the wiring can be very different. So, do a little bit of research before you just start buying a lot of stuff.

Mark, must you? That is a loaded question. You have 2 ways to make things work in this case. Either way is going to require a dealership level computer. The cheaper way is to simply tell the ECU that it is installed in an automatic tranny car and now the ECU will start sending all the necessary information. The other option is to get an ECU from an auto tranny car, but you still need the dealership level computer to allow the computer to talk to the other computers in the car.

Thanks thermo .that went over my head a little but .. but at the end of the day I want the manual transmission and the engine from my 2002 car into the 2004 car which has the automatic transmission and knackered engine so if I use the tcm and ecu from the 2002 car surly they would talk to each other? Or is there more to it than just swapping these things around

Mark, the computers need to be told to "play nice" with other computers in the car. This was done to prevent people from stealing cars, ripping them into tidbits and selling those bits for money. In the case of the computers, what you buy at a junk yard is a fully functional unit. But, when you put it into your car, it doesn't want to play with the others because it has been told it has its "own group of friends (ie, other computers)". So, what will happen is it won't transmit data like it should and therefore the other computers will not be able to function properly. So, once you take the dealership level computer and tell it "these are your new friends", then it will play nice.

I know this thread is 4 years old but I never got around to do this. Both of my jags have been sitting in a corner of a field for the last 3 years. But two weeks a got myself a nice 2002 3.0 auto with 64k on the clock. It's nice to be living the dream again
