Default wrong fuel (Petrol in a diesel tank)

hi..

im looking for some advice (hope im in the rite place ) I recently add 3.5 l litres of unleaded petrol over approx. 8 liter of diesel in my 2006 2.0 diesel X Type Jaguar Estate...
lucky me i have realise in time and i didt start the engine... but
because i wast near home and was rain .. i have full up my tank with other 52 liter of diesel and drove for next 7 mile...

my question is, is there any risk at this time to damage anything? if i will keep the tank full up for next 500 miles will that help?
or what will be best to do next ?

i really appreciate some good advice.

Won't hurt the car.

Plenty of people run up to 10% gasoline in the winter to keep the fuel from gelling, and the computer will look at that.

You have maybe 5% in there; you can get more than that by simply purchasing bargain-brand diesel.

I don't think you put enough in to cause any lasting damage & you were clever enough to top up with your correct fuel & dilute it down . You may wish to chat with the members on the UK Jag site link as the Brits do this this type of thing quite often . This is basically a USA Jag site & Jag didn't export diesels to USA...Anyway stay with us & tell us how you get on .....

I have known a number of people to do this - you may get some misfires and codes but fundamentally you should be OK.
If you had put a large amount in you would have had a problem if you driven away.. which is why if you do put a lot in it's critical to not start your engine - just call a breakdown service out to drain the tank.
To be honest you did well to realise after just a small amount of fuel - most don't realise till the pump clicks at the end :-(

If you saw the sort of product mixing that goes on in a oil terminal (regional distribution after refinery) to get product in spec, you would not bat an eyelid at this level of product mixing.

I used to work for an unnamed royal dutch sea shell shaped company and later for a flying american oil horse company.

Welcome to the forum lootpac,

The time to worry is after putting diesel in a petrol engine, not the other way round.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.
