Default x 400 2.1 MAF Sensor

Hi All
I have a 2003 2.1 v6 sedan that will not start. No spark, Today I checked the 5v reference voltage to the MAF sensor and it read 2 v and 5v when the sensor was unplugged.
This was replicated on the ignition coils reference voltage, and the MAP sensor. When the MAF sensor was plugged in the whole system crashed to around 2 volts.
So there is a problem with that sensor, all good. My question is , Does the 2.1 v6 need a MAF sensor plugged in to complete a circuit to allow the computer to signal a spark?
In short do I need to have a MAF sensor to start the car?
Thanks in advance for your help
John

Best place to check is the electrical diagrams - free download here or JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Chances are: not needed to start the car.

Idk about the 2.1, but I can tell you on a 3.0 after cleaning mine, I forgot to plug it back in. It fired right up but ran rough and threw the IAT & MAF code. Engine was still running when I plugged it back in. It coughed a bit, and smoothed right out.
