X-type 06 headlight bulbs blowing

One of the things that can shorten a bulbs life is vibration. If the bulb can
rattle around in it's socket that increases stress on the filiment. If the
entire headlight unit is loose then the same thing can happen.
The X-Types have headlight adjusters that are made of defective
plastic. They easily break. One symptom is that the headlight points
downward. You can check this by opening the back of the headlight
unit, just as you would to change a bulb, and see if the inside part moves.
Don't put too much force on it or you will break the mountings. There
have been long threads on this site on replacing these adjusters.
Another possibility is too high a voltage. This is easily chacked with
a voltmeter. Too high a voltage would indicate an alternator fault.
Hope this helps,
Pete.

Steve, do you have halogen or HID headlights (if not sure, look in the driver's door jam near the hinge, if you have a white/silver sticker there that says something to the effect of "this vehicle equipped with high intensity discharge (HID) bulbs")? If you have halogen bulbs, it is possible that you are touching the glass and leaving some oil on the glass leading to their failure. But, like was also mentioned, if the headlight assemblies are broken and the internals are bouncing around, that can cause the filament to fail too.
If you are thinking that it is some other electrical issue with the car, let me know and I can give you step by step instructions of what to check. I just need to know if you know how to use a multimeter.

This applies to standard type halogen bulbs - which is what I have in my 2005. The owners manual of course says to only use genuine Jaguar bulbs just like every owners manual for any car always does. I was told from childhood that this was nonsense and have always bought the correct numbered bulbs from parts stores or even K-Mart. No problems.
Until the Jag.
When my first low beam burnout happened, the dealer quoted me around $20 for a bulb. Nonsense. I bought the correct numbered bulb from a parts store and watched it burn out in a couple of weeks. Bought a different brand and watched it burn out in a few weeks. I was paying about $4 to $6 per bulb. I opened up the other side to see what kind of bulb came from the factory and then bought that same number bulb made by that some company in their package from a parts store and it failed after a few months.
So I found a Jag dealer that would discount and bought the identically marked bulb from the same bulb maker in a Jaguar box and put it in.
It's about to start its 3rd year in the car with no problems.
No one has been able to explain this. But that's my experience.
And I still buy all the other bulbs (stop, tail, turn etc) from parts stores.

Thanks Guys, I’ll check out the stick today, I’m tending to lean toward the Vibration issue, I have just moved and now live down a bumpy lane
The car used to be fine before we moved so I think it might have something todo with this problem,
But that’s my first port of call.
Once again many thanks for all your help
I’ll keep you posted with the findings.
