X-Type 2.0D (2008) Lost PCM Communication After Interrupted SDD Programming
X-Type 2.0D (2008) Lost PCM Communication After Interrupted SDD Programming
Hi all,Im hoping someone here can help me recover my PCM (or confirm its bricked) after an issue during a programming session.
🔹 Vehicle details
- Model: Jaguar X-Type (X400)
- Engine: 2.0 AJD-I4 Diesel (Ford/PSA Duratorq)
- Year: 2008
🔹 Diagnostic setup
- JLR SDD v130.03 running in a Windows XP VirtualBox VM
- Mongoose Pro clone (Mangoose)
- Host machine: modern Windows laptop
- Stable voltage: 13.1 V at the battery during ignition-on
🔹 What happened
The car was running normally before I connected SDD.I started a PCM-related Service Function and the process was interrupted mid-way (VM froze briefly).
After that, the car lost communication with the PCM completely.
Now:
- Engine wont crank
- Instrument cluster and warning lights behave normally
- Infotainment screen reboots when ignition is turned on
- SDD shows red cross on the SCP line PCM not detected
- All other modules (ABS, BCM, etc.) respond fine
What Ive tried so far:
Power and connections
- Battery fully charged + jump leads attached from another vehicle (13.1 V steady)
- R6 relay (suspected PCM feed) clicks on ignition-on
- PCM connectors unplugged / re-seated
- Grounds checked on bulkhead
Within SDD
- New session started manually (VIN entered manually)
- Vehicle correctly identified (X400 / 2.0D / 2008)
- Service Functions → Module Programming → PCM = Module not responding
- Tried Recovery Mode no communication
- Other modules accessible and respond normally
Hard resets
- Battery disconnected for 24 + hours
- Residual power discharged (brake pedal held)
- No change PCM still offline
- Display still resets at ignition
Current status
- PCM icon red-crossed in SDD
- Car dead-silent on crank (no relay click at starter)
- 13 V power steady
- Likely stuck in bootloader / incomplete flash
I can share photos of the SDD screens, fuse box, and setup if helpful.
Cheers,
Steve
Hi Steve,
I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I have moved your post from the General Tech forum to the forum for the X-Type (X400). Here you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars.
If you don't hear from other X-Type owners, try using the Advance Search function (in the drop-down menu at the Threads button above right) to search the X350 forum and other modern forums for SDD communication issues and restoring corrupted modules.
Note that Ford uses the term PCM (Powertrain Control Module), but Jaguar uses the term ECM (Engine Control Module), so look for both terms in your search.
Also, I don't see in your setup that you state that the laptop was connected to its power supply. That is critical to avoid mid-programming glitches.
Also, using another vehicle's charging system to support the Jaguar battery via jumper cables may not provide a sufficiently stable low-ripple DC voltage to prevent glitches. Jaguar calls for the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply, which provides up to 55 amps of low-ripple 13.6 volts DC. In my early days of SDD usage, I used a 50-amp desktop computer power supply with good results. I later found a good used PSC-550 on ebay.
Cheers,
Don
