x-type 2.1 fuel issue?
G'day all. New to the forums and looking for some help with an x-type 2.1 V6 I recently purchased.
Fuel consumption seems to be a little high. The best I can get is about 12.2L/100k's, and it looks like it should be around 9-10? Would that be correct.
Have checked for error codes, but nothing comes up.
Fuel also seems to drain back down into the tank when parked. I have a fairly steep driveway, and if parked facing up the driveway, car will stall when first started in the morning. Have to turn the key a few times to get the fuel back up before it will start. I assume there must be an air leak somewhere causing this? and this may also be contributing to the excess fuel consumption?
Where should I start looking for the problem.
Thanks for your help
Rob

I think it depends a great deal on what conditions you are driving under.
Our 2.1 will use 9lt per 100k at most on a 200k trip from Hobart to Launceston. But it is mainly used on short runs to shops and into Hobart (10k) and is using nearer 14lt per 100k.
If it runs crap when cold but ok when warm, I would start checking for vacuum leaks on the inlet manifold, IMT seals & split hose etc. Some useful info on this site helped me.

QUOTE=choppers84;502492 From your figure of 9-10 you are quoting the combined Consumption for your 2.1 X type. In my manual that figure of 10 is for the 2 litre petrol and 14.3 for Urban 7.4 for Extra-urban. You also haven't gave us the age and mileage.
I have a 2.5 v6 auto petrol X type 2003 96,000K when I first bough it second hand it was quite heavy on petrol around 15L/100 on E-Urban the manual quotes 7.4 then I put some special fuel additive and now I am getting 6L/100 against 13.6L/100 quote in the manual.
Regards,
Charles.

Hi, I have a 2003 2.1Ltr with 42,000 klms and I usually average 8.9 Ltrs on a 3/400 K trip. Around town I usually average 14.5 however it I really nurse it and drive very carefully I can get it down to an average of about 13.5. I love my X and am sorry I did not look for one earlier. All the best regards. 766caravaning (Tony)
