Default X type 2.5L codes 300, 352, 354, 356, 1314, 1316 and 1368. I need help on this one! I

I am getting 300, 352, 354, 356, 1314, 1316, 1368 and it is running rough. What else can cause intermittent misfiring on only one side of the V6? I have replaced the coils and have physically verified that they are firing. I checked out the wiring by pinpoint A tests, everything as it should be. I replaced the spark plugs, twice.

What spark plugs are you using?

rjcl, take a look at the wiring going to cylinders 2, 4, and 6 and concentrate on the yellow/green wire. I have a feeling that this wire has had the insulation damaged and it is shorting out, causing the computer to not see the coils properly. that should fix your issue.

I went through pinpoint test A and everything checks out I have looked at the wire and it looks ok. The one weird thing I noticed was that if I clear the codes while the car is running, it runs fine for a couple of seconds and the. Starts misfiring and throwing the codes again. That is odd, does it mean something?

rjcl, it is possible that the computer goes to a default program right after the codes are cleared. Hence the change. I think in the big picture of things, it is not something to consider.

Let me do some more looking and see what I can figure out. From what I remember looking at the Jaguar manuals, it was saying it was either an ECU issue or the wiring between the splice and the coils has an issue. Since it is affecting all 3 cylinders, it may be the wire between the splice and the ECU. So, may need to dive in deeper and follow the wiring back as far as you can. May even be worthwhile to disconnect the plug at the firewall to see if the pins look good there.

I have disconnected the harness from the ECU. The pins all look good. I also ran all of the pinpoint A tests to check the voltages and grounds and green/yellow wire from the connector to the individual coil connectors. Everything checks out. New spark plugs, new coils and even coils from Itmax. Checked all fuses. going to put a new crankshaft position sensor on in a couple of hours if it doesn't rain.

Changed the crank position sensor, it did not help but was relatively easy.

I removed the front passenger wheel and a plastic shield and it was right there! One bolt and one wire connector and that was it. The only problem is that it did not fix it. Back to the drawing board. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The crank position sensor, although very easy to change, did not fix my problem. What are the odds that the one "good coil" on bank 2 is actually the problem? As you can see, I am out of rational, logical ideas and desperately need help from the Jaguar community.
Thanks,
Rick

Default Newbie first post - codes P0300, P1314, P1000

Hello Rick and Jaguar forum members. I've been in stalker mode gleaning bits and pieces of knowledge from this forum for the past few months so this post is long overdue.

I'm new to Jaguar and this is my first experience with an X-type. I bought this car from an owner that did not want to deal with the issues she was experiencing - multiple misfires, would not rev past 3000 rpm, poor idle.

Sorry to revive this old thread, I'm in a similar predicament and am curious how you resolved your issue.

First thing I noticed was oil in the front bank spark plugs (#2,4,6) so I assumed the manifold cover boss gasket was leaking or oil got dumped in there from years of oil changes. But since I started with 17 codes I replaced the spark plugs, ignition coils, upper and lower manifold gaskets, and the two IMT o-rings in the manifold.

Plugs were original (118,000 miles) as were coils and green gaskets. I got it all back together and had the exact symtoms, just fewer codes.

Idle was rough, but I could rev it past 3000 rpms and maintain 4000 for a few minutes, but as soon as I eased up on the gas, the car would misfire and go back to limp mode.

My codes are consistently P0300, P1314, and P1000. So the issue is the front bank B and this is where I have focused on what issue could be in common on this side (grounds, power, ecm).

I cleaned all grounds, and followed the pinout for checking wiring for the three bank B ignition coils between the ECM and the ignition coil connectors. Only think I can think of at this point is a faulty ECM or a plugged catalytic converter.

So, hoping you or any forum members familiar with these symptoms can chime and let me know what ultimately solved the issue.

thank!

Tom
