We had an XJ Super V8 (1999) at the bodyshop last week where the owner couldnt open the boot due to battery problem...we drilled the boot lid to open it and then the RAC fitted a new battery and since it wouldnt start.Turned out to be a flooded engine...took RAC 3 hours to get it going!
However with modern engines it could be anything as there are many electronic and mechanical components.
Would say you would probably need to get a code read to ID or at least narrow down the problem
Good luck

Default Code Read

Thanks BuckMR2 for the suggestion and the welcome. I will try and get a code reader tomorrow and post the codes, if any.

The 2 codes P1000 and P1111 are just system readiness tests to check the system when you turn on the key so they can be ignored.

The P0191 code relates to one of the following
....fuel filter/system restriction
....fuel system leak
....fuel Injection pressure sensor failure or open circuits or shorting not sure if this is triggered as a result of cranking but not starting maybe someone else knows??

P1229 is triggered when there is a fault with either the throttle motor fails or is disconnected or an electrical fault to/from it and the ECM

You dont say what age or how many miles your car has (try adding it into your sig for future help) or if its regularly serviced as it may just be a blocked fuel filter. They are due every 70k miles but mine was black on my X Type when it was done at 60k
Maybe someone else can pinpoint from both codes being stored?

i will try to replace the fuel filter first and then look into the other parts.

thanks again and will post after i replace the fuel filter.

add this into your signature with engine size!

If it's a 2002 then unless the injection rail has been replaced due to injector pintle plugging issues (which were common on the '02-'03 due to more but smaller pintle design) your fuel rail should have a schrader valve under the engine cover near the p/s reseviour. Check for fuel pressure first, it's not terribly uncommon for the fuel pump/jet pump to quit. This is even more common if it is routinely driven low on fuel as the fuel acts as a coolant for the pump. If it does need pumps this is a big job that should be handled by a competent technician since there is not an access plate through the floor the fuel tank needs to come all the way out of the car. Proper sealing of the flanges is also imperative for a fault free evaporative system.

Default no pressure

i pressed down on the fuel rail pressure valve and nothing came out, no air, no pressure, nothing.

i dont know how to unclamp the fuel filter, it has a black square plastic part on the connector and i cant seem to unclamp it?

i would want to remove the fuel filter and see if the car pushes fuel there, if it does, is it safe to assume that the fuel pump is good?

thanks

kteck, just because there is fuel coming out of the hose from the fuel filter, you can't assume the fuel pump is good. It will tell you that it is getting power, but that is about it. With modern day cars, the fuel pump needs to both move the fuel, but also get it up to a finite pressure (in the neighborhood of 50-60 psi). Once the pressure reducing valve takes it down to around 40 psi, this makes sure the injectors can atomize the fuel properly.

Not to do the idiot check here, but check to make sure that Fuse #81 (under the dash) is not blown. This powers the module for the fuel pump. If in doubt, replace the fuse. Unfortunately, all of the wiring beyond this point is located on top of the fuel tank. So, really, the only way to access it is to drop the fuel tank. You can try crawling under there and seeing if you can access any of it, but I wouldn't hold my breathe too much. For reference, the fuel pump module is located on the driver's side, on top of the tank.

If you are looking to drop the tank, let me know and I will give you some wires to check. The big thing with this is you will need to keep the tank fairly close to the car so you can leave the plugs still installed. From there, we can determine if it is a fuel pump issue or a fuel pump module issue.

Default dsc system fault sign

i was looking to see where fuse #81 is and tried to start the car and it is showing DSC SYSTEM FAULT?

i had my rear brakes done a few months ago before it stalled on me once or twice and then just died out.

are the fuses numbered from left to right?

sorry but my lack of knowledge is making diagnosing this longer.
