Default X-type CD player question

Hello all, I have a quick question i asked it earlier in the audio section of the forum but no one has replied yet. My 02 x-type came stock with the cassette deck and 4 speaker audio system. I saw on ebay a cd player from an 04 x-type but in the description the cd player came from a car with the premium sound system. Will this fit? or will i have connection problems since i dont have that type of sound system on my car? Thanks in advance

Mine has the basic system (radio cassette with 4 speakers) but also has a Jaguar 6 CD multichanger in the boot.
It shouldnt be a problem to fit a Cd changer in the boot to yours but it connects to the radio via a fibre optic lead (I think) which you may need to check is in yours.
If no-one on the forum knows try emailing Jag customer services with the last 6 digits of your VIN and they will be able to tell you, alternatively and as a last resort you could ask your dealer.
I just had an email back from Jag customer services telling me mine isnt pre wired for voice so its worth asking them as they can tell youfrom your VIN info what your car has or hasnt got when it lefty the factory..

I dont think the speakers and the cd player have any relation, but i could be wrong...The premium sound system has alpine door speakers and an amp for the subs. But I dont think there are any changes to the cd player. Most of that type of equipment is inter-changable...

The optical link between the stereo head unit in the front, and the left hand side of the boot where the CD changer fits, is present on all specs and years of X-Type. (As are the CD changer power connectors.) The changer is plug and play, although if you don't have the touch screen controls then I believe you will need to visit a dealer to have the unit programmed in. There is only one kind of CD changer - it doesn't matter if you have the standard or premium sound system.

If you don't currently have any equipment in the boot/trunk then it gets more expensive because you will also need a new side carpet piece, an equipment rack to hold the CD changer, and a new spare tyre cover (although you can modify your existing one to fit by cutting the left hand side off. (I suppose you don't need those, you could choose to mount the changer on the floor if the cables will reach and you want to.)

hello all thanks for the posts. I am not looking to install a cd changer or anything like that. I am just tired of having a ton of cds at my house and not being able to enjoy them on my commute. So i was looking on ebay and found an stock cd player head unit from a 2004 i believe x-type that had the premium sound in it. I was just currious that since i didnt have that sound package if it would all work properly even though i didnt have the same sound package as the car that the head unit came from. If that makes any sense?
