X type drives smoothly, but no acceleration!- any advice
Hi All
I have a 04 2.0d X type, Yesterday I drove round the M25 and down the M11 doing good speed as usual, but as I joined the A406, I lost acceleration, no dead spots, just a lack of power, engine sound a bit noisy when I tried to accelerate. The car has always had superb acceleration, so it was blatant there was a problem. Same journey home, managed to get up to 70mph but very slowly, but still no acceleration at any time and but no noise this time when I tried to accelerate. The drive was still very smooth. I had put some diesel engine cleaner into the tank before the journey, could it be that? any suggestions would be appreciated.
Many Thanks

I had a very similar problem on my Subaru and it was a catalyst broken up in the housing which was blocking the exhaust.
You can tell by shaking the exhaust and listening for a rattling noise from the cat housing.
Cut it open, removed the bits, welded it back up and it was fine.

Thanks for the adivce guys, sadly on starting her up again, clouds of smoke continually bellowed from the exhaust, and guess what? its the Turbo..
Best Christmas ever...
but many thanks for taking the time to respond.
Kind regards
P.
