I am the proud owner of a great x-type estate 2004, which has done 88,000miles, the car is usually a dream to drive. However over the past couple of weeks its been losing power and running rough UPHILL, seems ok on the flat.
I took it to a local mechanic who put it on the machine which said everything was ok, no problems. I put in the tank some diesel fuel jet cleaner just in case the jets were getting blocked. .........The problem is still there only this time I'me getting plumes of black smoke when I accelerate.

Obviousley something is wrong....is it safe to drive ?

Any advice please.
