X-Type - external lights always on
Low beam headlights, sidelights & rear lights always on even when main light control switch is off. Switch tested OK on another vehicle so switch OK. Can anybody advise as checked fuses & relays as well as switch but not resolved.
Many thanks in advance.

If you have headlight switch in the off position and still the park lights are on....do they go out if you pull R11 out of power distribution box?
Does your car have Auto Headlamps feature or daytime running feature?

Hi h2o2steam & thanks for taking the time to help,
With switch in the off position the lights are on & if I take out R11 they still stay on as if always under power.
I have UK spec with autolight function but no daytime running lights (prior to fault).

Hi Yorkie1,
Thanks for the reply.....That seems really illogical.
I'll need to have a good think about where the false supply pathway might be coming from and squirrel a bit through the schematics.
To just confirm which lights you have permanently on:-
Low Beam headlights
Front Park lights
Front marker lights
Rear tail lights (park lights)
Do you have these lit as well?:-
interior lights like glovebox, cigarette lighter surround,
climate control and stereo LCD backlights
Light symbol in instrument panel
Does the light stalk still activate main beam (Dazzle).
Do you have standard headlights or the HID versions?
I am starting to wonder if we might need to resort to pull some fuses in a sequence to try and isolate where the false supply is possibly coming into the circuit....pause for thinking......

I agree its illogical but its like my lights are left in the low beam headlight setting even when turned off. It would point to a faulty switch but the swich cotrolled & turned off the lights as it should on my other older x type when I tested it.
I've read about different daytime running light settings for other countries but the switch worked on other x type so could it have changed daytime running setting in the ECU or is that controlled by the switch only ?
Its only the external low beam , side lights & rear lights including number plate lights as I do not have park lights & no internal lights are on.
The switch still controls high beam, front & rear fogs on demand. For info its a dial switch at the side of the steering wheel on the dashboard NOT a stalk switch.
Thanks again for your help h2o2steam, cheers, Paul.

Sorry forgot to say, all other functions like stereo, cigarette lighter, glove box & dashboard lights work as normal & when required.
Yorkie, lets see if we can figure this out. Just so I can make sure I completely understand what is going on with the lights. With the car off, the lights are off. Correct? As soon as you turn the ignition switch to any other position, the lights come on? Corrrect? Are all lights at their normal brightness or do they seem to be a bit dimmer than normal? Do they change intensity when the headlight switch is moved? I am attempting to sources of power that the headlights are getting with these questions.
Lets start with pulling relay R11 (engine bay fuse box) and also fuses F47 and F48.(passenger compartment fuse box). Are the lights still on? If yes, then we know that there is a wiring problem that is associated to the headlights and not to the interior of the car. If no, are the rear license plate lights still on car on, headlight switch in the OFF position)? If yes, then we know the problem is most likely with the headlight switch.\
The final question that I have is do you know when this started? Has it been this way ever since you bought the car recently? Start after say upgrading the stereo? Start after having some engine bay work done? To have all these lights stay on like you are telling me, leads me to 2 possibilities: 1) someone before you wanted the headlights to do something specific and they have messed with the wiring (rewiring things), or 2) we have multiple issues and we need to sort out what is a symptom and what is actually a problem.
