Well now it's December and the Christmas lights are coming on all over.
And my car is in the Christmas spirit too, the engine management warning light is on. Ho Ho Ho.
Hmmph.
The code that came up wasn't the one I expected ie "Ooh, it's getting a bit cold, have you considered getting another car?"
No it's the fuel pump relay, apparently Fords are known to have problems, and it may be the same issue with jags.

 

Hope it's not going to be a problem, my local mechanic is fully booked till Dec 16th.

 

My daughters X-Type can't seem to go more than 2-3 weeks between visits to Dad for some type of repair or another. Starting to think that these little beauties may actually be high maintenance after all... I've spent more time wrenching on her X-Type since April than I have on any other car I've owned. But it sure looks pretty sitting in the driveway with the hood up...

 

I'm finding it hard going sometimes to justify the time I have to spend keeping mine on the road. It's only done 53,000 miles. I started off with a bucket list of things to sort, the only one I couldn't find from the original list is a decent maple steering wheel. The warning light came back on a few minutes after my mechanic cleared it, then yesterday, on the way home from booking it in with another workshop for next Monday, it went out and hasn't come back on. I really do think it was the change in the weather. I just hope the fuel pump doesn't give up on me over the Christmas break. There, cursed it.

 

Latest assessment is that it's not the fuel pump relay after all. It's the other bloody Lambda sensor, the pig of a one between the rear bank and the heat shield. I'm going to try a petrol additive first in the faint hope it's just a bit of carbon build up that's giving a false reading. I've been already advised against using a sensor removing tool of the split socket type because they can slip (as I found when trying to get the front one off) and round off the corners. I'll probably source one off the Internet like before, if I can't get the warning light to go out by other means. The fan and throttle bodies were also giving error codes. I was told that they were probably just intermittent, but the throttle bit is getting on for £300!
I will not be attempting to do the sensor myself, it's too cold, and I'm too busy. When will it end?

 

It's all fixed. Sensor sourced from Berkshire Jaguar Components, great service as per usual. Fitted by Chris Fiddler of Newbury, for a not unreasonable £66 for one hour labour.
Well it would've been reasonable if they hadn't opened the drivers door onto a hard scratchy object and put some really deep scars on it. Unfortunately I didn't see it till I'd already driven off. Can't do anything about it until the weather changes, then it will be a light blow over of lacquer, wait a week, then try and buff it out.
The mechanic MUST have known.

 

I have this problem to along with the front passenger door not unlocking.

 

My front passenger door also wouldn't always unlock every time. At first I thought it was a problem with the locking mechanism, then I realised that it wasn't releasing from the door pillar itself. Try putting something like silicone grease on the bar that the catch locks onto. This will help it release.
Since applying grease to the door pillar bit the sticking lock problem has disappeared.
