Default X Type Keys

I went to Honolulu Jag to get a new key cut, the parts guy, really nice young guy, went in the back and came out with a green form, and slid it across the counter and backed up.
I looked at the quote and it was $330.00. I told him I understood why he backed up. He said people see the cost of the key, not the fob, just the key and yell at him.
Is this the going rate for a new key? I know it has to be cut by Jaguar, but damn. Anybody got any other ideas, I called two lock shops, and no one on the island can cut the tubular key.

Maybe because you're living on an island?

I had the same experience at my local Jag parts dept last week. After talking with the gentlemen behind the counter for about 15 minutes and spending more than a few $$ on other parts I needed, he agreed to cut my new $12.44 ebay key blanks (with transponder chips) for free, but he advised me that they still need to be programmed to the car and their service dept charges $185 for that.

Found a local locksmith that will code them to the car for $60.
