Default x type miss fire help pls (carer in need of help)

Hi all
New to this but need some help with my jag when I'm driving I've started getting what feels like engine miss fire the ems light flashes then goes off then drives ok but it starting to do it every day now I have no codes coming up, could it be coil packs I've checked for air leaks and can't find any
How do you check the coil packs with a meter and what pins do I use and what ohms should I be getting also could this be spark plugs
Jaguar x type 2002 2.1 petrol
I'm a full time carer for my wife and depend on the car and do look after her but when it comes down to electrical I'm out
Any help would be appreciated

David, there are no real checks that you can do with standard garage equipment that will tell you about a coil pack going bad. They either work or they don't. I would say to start with a plug change (especially if it has been 50K miles (80,000 KM) since the last plug change. This will also give you a chance to look in the plug wells for any oil that may be building up there.

The part that has me confused is if the EML light is flashing, then you should be getting a code to come up. What I want you to try is to plug in your code reader (sounds like you have one) as soon as you get in the car. Tuck it out of the way so you can drive your car. Start it up (leave the reader installed) and take it out for a drive and get the engine light to come on. Before turning off the car, read the codes at this point. What I am suspecting is that you have a blown battery fuse for the engine computer and this is clearing the codes from the computer so when you go to read the codes, they get cleared. See what codes you get this way. Post what you get here. HOpefully this way will give us a clue as to what is going on. Something funny is happening, we just need to get that first nugget of information.

Also, when was the last time you changed the fuel filter? If it has been more than say 20K miles (30,000 KM), then that may be something else to give a try, especially if you are finding that your problems arise when you are trying to accelerate at a moderate rate.

It can only flag a code if a fault occurs fairly consistently but flashing MIL means cat damage. Don't let that happen or it'll get costly.
