Default x-type power steering

Drove my 04 x-type with 27k miles to work this morning everything was fine. When I left to go home I had no power assist. Hard to beleive the pump would quit that fast with no sign of noise or anything before. There is no sign of fluid swirling in the reservoir? Any ideas or common problems?

Servotronic system may be malfunctioning. Look under vehicle where steering column meets the steering rack. You will see an electrical connector there. Make sure it is plugged in. If your reservoir has fluid in it, try disconnecting battery for 5 minutes. See if it comes back. If not we will need to look elsewhere.

Thanks FactoryJaguarTechI checked connection at servo and disconnected the battery with no success. Can you tell me where the steering relay is so I can voltages and transducer resistances from there or do you have a suggestion of what I should check next.

Thanks

On the red wire, you need to check amperage at the rack with engine running. It should be 864 milliamps. If it is 0 amps, it means the instrument pack is not out putting signal to make servotronic have maximum assist.
There is not much you can test other than that. If it is putting out the amperage, it means then that you have a bad servotronic unit. I believe you can get that seperate. Anyway, check the amperage to servotronic and let us know.
I may not be able to answer quickly as I am out of town. But JG or IbJags may be able to assist you further.

I have 864 milliamps when vehicle is running and it gradually reduces with wheel speed. number on the srvotronic is 01044760. Is there any chance the pump is no good? Thanks for all your help!

If 864ma idle and decrese with speed, means it is getting signal. What do you have on the other wire? Voltage and amperage.
I also agree with Genius. Is it making any noise when you go to full lock? What does the fluid look like?
Does it have no assist at any speed? Slow manouvering etc?

No noise from pump at all and fluid clean. Took pump off and disassembled and found nothing visibly wrong? Reassembled and re-installed. Now I have assist but pump is noisy like it has air. Will drive for a day or so and see if it gets quiet, otherwise I guess I will replace the pump.
