X type purchase prices.
OK i have been looking at some Jaguars x type and i have become smitten with one I like in particular. There are a couple of issues tho with it and possibly the reason I might be so inexpensive. Im looking at a 2005 Jaguar X type 3.0l V6. The post said 2995.00. I am a mechanic and I know what the pluses and negatives are. but let me break down some of the reason I believe it may be so inexpensive. 1 it has 183,000 miles on it. 2 it has a nice structural dent on the left rear quarter panel. Now I have talked with the dealer and its possible I could get it for around 2500-2650 cash but I want to know if that would be a good purchase.:ico n_google:

Cam, as long as the transfer case is good, then I would say to go for it. The other "question" that I would be asking is whether it has DSC or not. The year car that you are looking at has the non-viscous coupled transfer case in it. Without the DSC, even though the car is AWD, in adverse weather, the car will send all the power to the wheel that looses traction. With the DSC system, it will make the car act more like what an AWD car should. I know you guys get the lake effect snow and having the extra traction would be nice.

I bought an 02 with about 155k miles on it with left rear quarter damage as well, for $2k. Givin the fact that it's newer than mine with more miles, I wouldn't pay more than $2200 or so.
For what it's worth, it cost me $900 to have the damage repaired. Here's a picture of the end result. I can't find any of the before but it was creased about an inch deep along most of panel horizontally just above the wheel arch.

I got my 2003 3.0 with 125,00 miles on it in almost mint cosmetic condition for $500 about 5 months ago. The previous owner said it needed a new transfer case. I ended up just rebuilding the back half of it with the instructions I found on here and all is well.
Other then that and a full tune up, top radiator hose. Its been a great second car. But sadly it got hailed on a month ago so I will have to get that fixed this winter when I cut out the rusted sill panels and weld in some new ones.

I paid a bit more for mine, $2900 neighborhood, but 130k with good records and new rubber all the way around, and a fresh tune up with ne gaskets and seals.. Also a fresh state inspection from a shop known to be a stickler, well experienced in Jaguars. The It seems like the previous owner had a ton of stuff replaced at 125K, and it looks like he just wanted to get back what the shop cost him. He almost did...and I have all kinds of nice shiny parts with the Jag stickers still on 'em.
It needs things, adding them slowly; O2 sensors, some hoses, tubes and nozzles, no idea what kind of brakes are on the car, but putting a set of rotors and ceramics on this weekend, along with new lug nuts if everything is here...I was told it needed cats and an oil pan gasket...sniffer says cats are good, and I am not losing any real amount of oil, so until I'm under there, not messing with any of those things.
In a nutshell, still way under 4 grand, even with the grille, spoiler, and the soon-to-be added HIDs. (you'd think that the original lights were designed by Lucas--Prince of Darkness™!

I think that the lights issue is related to using the halogens in reflectors designed for HIDs, since the HID lights are great.
The lights in my Disco II were so good from the factory that I never changed them!
Still, the price of admission to the Jag club is pretty low, as long as you can do a lot of your own work and spec replacement parts from outside suppliers they are quite reasonable!
