Default Xtype cold weather squeal 30-55 mph

I have a 2002 jaguar xtype. I have been experiencing a squealing noise coming from the front passenger side of the car. This squealing only occurs during cold weather, below 50f usually and between 30 to 55 mph. Sometimes the squealing will cease for no reason but sure enough it will come back randomly as well. I have taken the car to the dealer and they have had no luck. Any ideas?

From what I understand its caused by the cold weather. It has to do with the drive shaft center bearing. My X hasn't done it yet but it's starting to get cold here in Ohio. It usually only makes the sound for about 5min after the car is started cold and goes away once i reach around highway speeds. Check here on how to grease the bearing..

Probably prop shaft - it is a temp related symptom for sure. I've had this occur and had the shaft replaced twice, both times it was the culprit.

although there is a chance it could be your serp belt, since it is in the front pssngr side of the car.

Mine does it every winter. Propshaft hasn't exploded yet.

From old service records I know my propshaft was replaced at about 20k miles. I have 53k now. Aside from having to explain what the sound is when people are in the car I see no reason to mess with it. Next time it warms up I will probably try and get some grease in there but I'm not too worried about it.

I just tell people that's my supercharger spooling.

Funny thing is...80% of people believe me.

Default Thanks

I have printed this up and have called several other jaguar dealerships to resolve the issue. The dealer is finally giving in and replacing. Thanks for the help. Hopefully no more annoying squeal!

UPDATE!!!!
Thank GOD I HAVE A WARRENTY!
fully covered replacement of my entire driveshaft finished today. So now i can drive in the chicago winter cold without looking (technically sounding or squealing) like a jackass.
If you dont have a warrenty and decide to have the dealer replace it, your looking at minimum $500-$700 ($500 at least for driveshaft, plus $130 an hour for jaguar mechanic).

Any chance of getting this repaired under warranty since I complained about it BEFORE my warranty expired?

I had about a year remaining on my warranty. I left the car overnight at the dealership so they could witness the noise on a cold morning. But as luck would have it, an angel decended upon the dealership that night and performed a miracle... They said they "could not duplicate" the noise. Imagine that. Guess it was one of those 24 hour miracles because it made the racket the next morning on my way to work and every morning through out the winter.

Certainly worth a try. The dealership will have records of your visit and the prop shaft bearing noise is well documented.
