Default xtype newbie. Donor engine?

Have an 04 x-type 3.0L. with bad head gaskets.
Forgive my ignorance (more familiar with my old XJ12 and XJ6)...where could a guy get a cheap replacement engine? What other vehicles use this same engine? Would swapping in a non-VVT engine work with my stock ECU? Thanks in advance!

Suitable donors are the 2.5 X-Type, the 3.0 X-Type (different ECUs!) and the 3.0 Lincoln LS (no idea on the ECU). See this thread for more information.

The same 2.5 and 3.0 engines are used in the S-Type, but there are some differences due to the longitudinal mounting in the S-Type versus the transverse mounting in the X-Type. Not sure how easy it would be to make one work.

Swapping engines in an X type?
You'll need mad skills, at least. I'll finish mine this weekend. I've been saying that for two months. But this time I really mean it.
If you have not searched for engine swap threads, then start with that. Briefly, it comes out the bottom not the top, with transmission attached.
I got my engine from a dismantler (wrecking yard). It was not as expensive as I thought it would be when I started the project. Good luck.

Default thank you!

I'm interested to know roughly how long it will take to remov the engine/trans? (working outside, not in a cozy, warm shop!)

In Canada? Oh my...
I was in a carport so I have cover, but no sides. And it actually gets decently cold in north AL. But I'm sure nothing like Canada.

I've been hacking at mine for a while. But I travel for work a lot and only get to work on it a day a week at most and not for a solid day at that.
Realistically? Figure on a full day to unhook everything electric. A full day to remove the radiator. A full day to remove the driveshaft and exhaust. And a couple days to drop the power train out. If you get a whole engine like I did with all the sensors and wiring harness intact figure on a day to get it off and the new one back on. Add one day for every item of "scope creep" ... "while I'm in here" like new axles or new transmission seal. And then do it all again in reverse to put it all back together. YMMV. I'll put some links here on your thread later today that may help. Gotta run now.

Look through this thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...10/#post650936
And look for other posts under my user name. Might be other helpful stuff. Search the Xtype forum as a whole, too. Get a copy of the JTIS CD. I think you can download it somewhere on the forum.

I'm here to help, along with many others here. Good luck.
