Hey All, first post. Thanks for having a community of Jaguar owners, my wife doesn't want to hear another word from me on the topic.
My question to the community: what kind of performance improvements can I get out of the diesel engines?
I'm preparing to buy my lease, a 2017 Jaguar XE 20d Prestige w/ 39,000 miles on it because this is the most fun I've ever had with a car.
I've test driven the '20 P250 and R-dynamic and I feel like the power is very similar to the 20d, surprisingly. Of course, off the line the P250 is much quicker and sounds better around the city, but from ~40mph to ~100mph on the highway I feel like the diesel engine is much more responsive and can pass cars like they're doing 40mph where both the '20 P250 and R-dynamic seem to lose the gitty-up.
I also have the options which are most important to me in the Prestige trim, including the particular color I love (discontinued) and the black design package.
So, is it silly for me to try to find extra performance out of the 20d? Should I just return my lease (~$29,000 buy-out) and hunt for a 35T V6 Supercharged in my trim, color w/ black design (unicooooorns)? Are the new P250's worth another lease with the interior improvements they've made since I can order exactly what I want feature and appearance wise?
What would you do?
Thanks in advance,
Jason

My feeling is that if you have the car you like, and you believe the buyout price is OK, keep it. Yours looks great by the way.
I wouldn't go chasing an unknown 35T, just for more power.
You could try a 300t which is faster than a 250t and you may be able to build to your spec. I say maybe, because right now Jag websites are stating "build your XE is for info only" since JLR isn't accepting new orders at present. So your lease expiry may be a factor here.
There must be performance upgrades for diesels. The UK XE forums may be a source since diesels are much more common there. Some of those guys must have remapped diesels
Not many XE diesels in MA. The buyout on my XE was a joke and Chase could keep it. The whole end of lease and wanting to buy another JLR product was a sad story. Made me never to want a new JLR product again. That, and never buying a car from Herb Chambers again.
I've got only a few days left to decide, still going back and forth every day over leasing again or buying this one. The bottom line is that it's a $29,000 buy out, a $26,900 market value, and I've now paid 3 additional extension payments totaling $1,243 so in all I will have paid $31,243 to buy the car out. I don't think anyone smart with money would do this, but I'm emotionally attached to this car
I assumed, silly me, that extension payments would come out of the buy out but the dealer tells me this isn't the case. I've reached out to the bank for a meeting about this, and whether there is any wiggle room for the buy out, which I don't expect seeing as they won't lose money on it.
@keith100"I say maybe, because right now Jag websites are stating "build your XE is for info only" since JLR isn't accepting new orders at present."
have you read or heard that they are discontinuing the XE/XF models? I've been trolling forums and heard many rumors. My dealer is still telling me to build on the site and send him the details for a price.. when I asked him about discontinuing I got radio silence (as expected)

tell me about your turn-in experience. I'm working with Jake Kaplan's in Warwick (I'm closer to RI than Boston) and so far they've been pretty honest and up front about everything. Did you end up getting another Jaguar? Have you been to the Norwood Jake Kaplan's? I test drove their R-Dynamic demonstrator and it was a LOT of fun, but very expensive for just an ECU upgrade.

Basically, Herb Chambers in Wayland (where I bought the car) told me they were too busy and had no room for me to return the car to them and I had to go to another Jag dealer. I called Chase (the leasing company) and they said I could drop it off at the Maserati dealer next door. I schedule an appointment to drop it off at Maserati and they tell me that they can only accept Maserati. The guy telling me this is George Chambers; Herb's son. I explained to him what his Jag dealer told me and he almost fell off his seat. We both walked over the Jag dealer and they took the car back.
As far as service, I never had one experience where the car was fixed correct and/or set back to the way I had it. Every time they would adjust the tire to Normal mode and inflate to like 40+ psi. I told the service manager every time I want it to remain in light lode which what you're suppose to set it to for normal driving. Normal mode is for 5 people and luggage only. Not sure why Jag named them as such. The dealership delivered my car with fault rear seat buckles. First big road trip and my rear passengers have no seat belts... What the F did I pay for with dealer prep? Thet did pick up and drop off my car on occasion and I did once in a while get a loaner car. So somethings were good.
As for not wanting to buy another one. JLR offered no return customer incentives and I when I wanted to turn it early on another JLR model (looking at Velar or Evoque Convertible), dealer wouldn't knock $50 off either car on the lot and said I had to eat 3 months of my current lease. The former finance manager at the JLR dealership starting working at Volvo dealer near me. I went there, got a discount on a loaded XC60 T6 Inscription and they paid off my Jaguar lease.
Herb wouldn't discount an on the lot car $50 and didn't want my car back on return. JLR could give two ***** whether you're a loyal returning customer or not.
Wow @mosesbotbol that sounds like a nightmare. I'm sorry you went through that. The XC60 was a good choice, I really like those.
An update to my fiasco, I had the meeting with the bank (chase) and it turns out my extended lease payments do apply directly to the buy-out price. That is not what the dealer told me. I'd much prefer someone say "I don't know let me get back to you" than take a guess. I don't believe there was any malicious intent, but still it leaves me wondering about previous interactions and what level of honesty was given.
I found a '17 35T near me, it just showed up on a used car lot within a few miles of me and the people who run that lot don't have a great reputation. Not really for bad cars, but they prey on people with bad credit - one of those buy here, pay here joints. I went and test drove it, for the first time behind one of their supercharged models, and maannnn is it powerful. I actually lost my hat on a back road. My car (the 20d) felt like a sled after being in that one.
I'm going to open up a new thread about some questions regarding repaint and black design package. I want to thank you both again for your replies! I'll be avoiding herb chambers as recommended
