Default Confused.. Oil cap says different than user manual

Hey there,
I own a 2017 XE 35t r-sports AWD, which is a V6 supercharged engine. I just realized something weird and looking for some helps here.

I saw oil cap says to use 0w20, but I found that in the user manual it actually says to use 5w30... So the question is which engine oil is the right one?

In my F-type (same engine), they changed the recommendation after I took delivery. I’ve used 5W-20, since I don’t drive it in the winter, though I realized the dealer used 0W-20 when I let them do it. I found 5W-20 in JLR spec was harder to find this spring, so I used 0W-20. I think the recommendation is 0W-20 except in warmer climates.

The manual is wrong, the AJ126 (V6 SC) has always had 0W-20 as the oil spec.
JLR tend to recycle and generalise in the Owner's Manual with quite a number of errors (jacking points for example) and the correct spec oil for the diesel 3.0 V6 is 5W-30 so my guess is your manual is really for the diesel not the petrol.

This will most likely be a regional thing, where either the manual or the oil cap has carried over and not taken account for specific markets.

For example, my S550 Mustang was delivered with a 5w-20 oil cap, which is the USA specification for the 5.0 V8. However, Ford Australia specify 5w-30 to account for the hotter climate, as such the owner's manual has been printed with 5w-30 as the oil specification. Cue mass confusion among Mustang owners.

Here’s the doc from 2018, when JLR released yet another oil spec. 0W-20 it is.

Also there is a helluva variation in climates across both the US and Oz so it makes zero sense to have only one oil spec for each let alone a different one only for each.
Think about Marble Bar vs Chicago and Hobart vs Phoenix then tell me which is the "right" weight oil for these countries.

It's a bit odd that the manual states 0W-20 for the 3.0L RWD but 5W-30 for the 3.0L with AWD. Why should the drive arrangements change the oil required by the engine?
Also, the manual seems to have reversed the engine oil recommendations for the 2.0L engine - everywhere else I've looked (including my XE's manual) the recommendation is 0W-20 for the petrol and 5W-30 for the diesel.
Was the manual supplied with a Ford or Ingenium engined XE?

Wonder if it has to do with the fact the RWD 3.0L V6 takes 7.6 quarts whereas the AWD 3.0L V6 has only 5.7 quarts?

Which has led to numerous AWD V6 F-type owners having the oil overfilled by dealers, as Jag apparently didn’t update the specs to indicate the AWD models have smaller oil pans. (Don’t recall if that applies to the V8 too, but not relevant in this forum.)

Default Wish the V8 was relevant to this forum

I would have bought an XE RS in a nano second if it had the supercharged V8. A few years ago I drove the Project 8 - it was a total blast. What a machine. If they only could have shoe horned the supercharged 5.0L in a production car.

Very informative ,now I know why the rear wheel drive takes more oil than the all-wheel-drive. It's the size of the oil pan.
