Default Has Jaguar fixed their cars?

I am possibly looking into buying an XE but I was wondering if Jaguar fixed their reliability issues of their cars? I am very hesitant to buy another Jag but i love the styling so much and no other car seems to come close.

I used to have an XJ Vanden Plas that was maybe driven twice a week, and it started to have a suspension issue with the pump or sensor. It cost a grand to fix and after that I ended up selling it before the entire suspension system needed replaced.

I currently have my x type left that has 125k miles, it's been through 2 transmissions (changed once by PO), brake lines needed replaced, speedo and abs quit working years ago, fuel level sensor is going bad, also had a suspension issue, knock sensor went bad, small electrical issue with climate control lights go on and off sporadically, climate control fan knob sticks, and a whole lot more smaller issues. The only thing I can say is the engine is good because all I do is change the oil and it runs, but everything else seems so cheap.

Are the new models such as the XF and XE more reliable or does the same crap just break? I don't know if I should just go with a very reliable car like my wife's Subaru or take the chances with another JAG?

Hello

I don't know what your needs are but if you are cross shopping Jaguar with Subaru, you probably don't need Jaguar and are better off with Subaru.

Jaguar's reliability is average, very similar to other luxury brands.

As for the XE, it is a first model year in the US and therefore there are some reliability issues to be expected. There are a good amount of issues with Jaguar's infotainment systems.

XF also just got a refresh so I believe it is a better bet in terms of the reliability.

Jaguar is on par with the German marques, FWIW. New cars come with good service included warranty at no additional charge.

According to consumer reports, Audi now rates higher than Honda in reliability.

Interesting. I've never really been an Audi fan but I was recently looking at some of their models and they did improve styling quite a bit.

We're now in an alternate universe where Japanese brands are no longer better than German brands as a general statement.

Maybe Jaguar will top the list next! With the extra generous 5yr/60k warranty, if they don't up the reliability, they won't be able to stay in business.

Sorry, what?

Are you honestly complaining about stuff needing to be repaired/replaced on a 10+ year old car with 125k miles on the clock, that's in a harsh winter climate (salted roads, etc)...

I think someone needs a reality check here...

I can understand some of the things that may have occurred because of age/climate but other things such as going through two transmissions shouldn't happen. I think the first transmission was replaced under 35k miles by previous owner and then I replaced it again at at approximately 100k. Then there are things like the power seat not working how it should and the door handles are hard to operate, you have to yank up on them really quickly. I've never had things like these fail on my other cars. I usually try to keep my car's until I have around 200k on them so maybe that's a bit too optimistic on the Jaguar?

at the $65k sticker on my XE, I think I should have bought the new Infiniti Q60 Red Sport Coupe instead for the same sticker price.

I think the XE is good but the base XF might have been better all around if comparing Jag only models.

Im just a sucker for Jag still so I bought the XE instead.

I saw one in person leaving work the other day. The guy must've thought I was some freak because I wouldn't stop staring at his car It's a beauty, but I'd still go Jag any day.

What model did you get? At my jag dealer they range from 30k to 45k max. That's the one reason I was leaning towards getting the xe/xf instead of Subaru. If you're talking nearly 40k for a Subaru it's sort of encroaching on luxury car prices and makes sense to go Jaguar, if reliability is good. After all I tend to keep my cars until they die.

The XE 35t (340 hp) R-Sport, with just a few options, cost me about $62,000.

That sounds like a fully optioned car. Is that out the door price with TTL or without?

I don't think you would do the same if you've driven any Infiniti of last 5 years.

They look aggressive. That's where that brand ends.

Jaguar XE is best in its base form with V6. Once you add options it gets too expensive.

It's actually 'predicted reliability' whatever that is. They don't say how they are measuring reliability let alone predicting it. 'We've seen the ad and it was very convincing'.

$56K is pretty competitive. If you load up a 340ix to similar equipment levels, it costs same or even slightly more.

And you do not get the 5-year free required service and warranty. Nor do you get the lane change warning or the blind spot warning... they were not available on any 3-series or on any Audi A4 or S4 when I was looking.

They are available on the current 3/4 series and have been since the start of the F30. They are part of drivers assistance plus (or driver assistance ii) which also requires drivers assistance and navigation. All told it adds $4-5K to the cost of the car. With R-Sport many of these things are standard.

I am sucker for Jags or any British car...

XF is a different drive though; in the showroom the shape did not inspire me as much. I did not cross shop as most would've, Q60 is nice. New S90 Volvo is wow looking at 65K. I would've bought the Giulia Q if it was available.

I would consider another XE again (this one is leased) if it evolves to the XE "RS" model. Would be awesome with V8 in French Blue. No manual is kind of sad.
