Default Jaguar XE in Canada

Hello folks. I have been lurking for a while as I have been thinking about getting a used XE this summer. I have read numerous articles about this car not doing well and that Jag really needs it to get hot to bring in a new demographic. With this mind, I just read an aticle that I will link to, if I am allowed. It is on Driving.ca. To summarize, Jag only sold 157 XE's in all of Canada. And I'll bet the majority were 4 cylinder models. Doesn't seem a like a model that is long for life in this country.

https://driving.ca/features/feature-...canada-in-2019

Not a big deal for me as I will be looking at a 2017/2018 model, preferably an R35T AWD.

Hi Shane, welcome to the forum

XE sales are indeed dismal, not just in Canada, but worldwide, and, ironically, got even worse after the facelift.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jag just drops the model.in a couple of years.
All 2019 XE's will be 4 cylinder, since JLR dropped the 6 in late 2017, with 2018 models sold off from the stockpile.

I think it's a great car with good handling/ride setup and very entertaining performance with 6 (I have a 35T) Rear seat and trunk are cramped though. It's really a 2+2
Mine has proved very reliable.

Good luck

Thank you for the welcome! I think the XE is drop dead sexy. I am currently driving a 2013 Infiniti G37X and am looking into upgrading. I have narrowed it down to four items. They are very different, to say the least!

1) Jag XE R-Sport 35T AWD (2017/2018). Sexy looking and with a tune you are at 400hp. I could just sit and look at it for hours.

2) Golf GTI Autobahn, DSG (2018). The opposite of pretty, but nice and small for parking underground. A hoot to drive and you can tune the engine AND the transmission. We have a few local shops that tunes and mods VW's.

3) Mazda CX-5 GTT/Signature Edition (2019+). I love Mazda's as I used to sell them. VERY dependable and great on gas, but a little slow. But the new 2.5T addresses that problem. As an old, fat guy it would be a lot easier to get in and out of. :-)

4) Acura RDX, Elite trim (2017/2018). VERY loaded, nice looking, great V6 and strong 6 speed automatic. Looks like a great SUV that will run for years problem free.

Have you driven the Jag? It is really the driving that is the clincher for it, it is that good. Much better dynamically than the F Pace, and the transmission and steering are quite beautiful. I wouldnt bother trying to get one with adaptive suspension, I think the stock R Sport suspension is just about perfect.

The market rush to SUVs is what has killed the small sports saloon. Here in the UK the BMW 3 series is no longer common like it once was and the Audi A4 and the Merc C Class are the same. My XE is excellent. Jaguar make the car very involving to drive, but if you can't get people into the showroom in the first place it means nothing.

It is the same everywhere. Soccer moms in the US may have started it, but now it is universal. And with the population ageing, it will only continue. I asked my aunt last year why she went from her sedans to an SUV. She stated very simply that it is easier to get in and out of. I thought about that for a long time. I love my Infiniti and think it is sexy as hell. However I do make some noises getting up and out of it

And while a new to me XE would be even sexier, I am starting to feel the call of the SUV for practicality reasons. AWD cars are a necessity for Canada. There are currently only 7 cars in Canada that are V6 and AWD R-specs. The closest one is almost 1,000Kms away. I suspect it will be very hard to find one that is within reach, geographically or financially. But never say never. However, SUV's are on every corner.

Well we’ve got our health issues but it’s amazing how performance and comfort overrides getting in and out. Obviously if it’s a major issue one must concur.

In my case, it's just being fat and lazy. My four choices all offer something different, but the XE the sexiest by far. And the way sales are going it will also be the most unique. I will start getting serious in May/June. The XE is already my desktop background.

I had an F-Pace as a courtesy car two years ago, and found it harder to get into than my then XJ6. It was so high up I needed a set of steps to get onto the seat cushion (only joking !). When I queried this on returning the car, they said there was an option to have a running board.

I bet you posted on the Mazda forum that the CX-5 is the sexiest thing to look at, JK. Knowing Halifax very well I'm not sure if I would drive the XE during winter there. I took for a spin multiple times 2016 Mazda 3 GTS 18" wheels across Canada, and oh boy, I thought we have the worst roads in NYC. JFYI, the XE is not easy to get in and get out comparing even to Q50 until of course you adapt.

No, I do not think the Mazda is attractive or the GTI for that matter. RDX is not bad looking for an SUV.

Our roads do indeed suck. Lots of frost and heaving.

The only thing I enjoyed in visiting the US on business was your highways. A nice rental car and I could run the highways all night.

Getting in and out would be the same on both, just with a prettier package.
