Thanks. That's a decent record, although in my experience (with BMW) most of the big problems hit after 100,000 miles, lots of minor ones between 50,000 and 100,000. And this is with my older car with very little tech.

Both the operating manual and the 'quick start guide' indicate the seats should have the bolster and cushion adjustment.

They are not all that comfortable on a long drive .. for instance my F type R has seats that really hug you and seem to be formed perfectly and they are good for a long drive.

I must say though, I do really like the car, not only its looks, but the way it handles is superb, and its over all quality is really good.

Sorry i didn't get back sooner on this, Lawrence. There are three levels of adjustment on seats :-

manual adjustment for for/aft with electric recline - known as the 8*8 seats
basic electric adjustment, for/aft, up/down and recline - 10*10
additional electric adjustment, the 10*10 plus the squab/wings - 14*14

It's the 14*14 that you believe you have. I took a look at the Canadian configurator, you car comes with 10*10 as standard. In the UK, the two levels of trim higher than the R-Sport - Portfolio and S - have the 10*10 as standard also. What puzzles me is that the 14*14 seats aren't obviously offered as extras in North America, although i am sure I have seen a US spec car with them somewhere.

With regards comfort, the 10*10 usually proves to be very comfortable when properly adhusted - which may take a bit of perseverance.

Thanks for the information.

As it happens, I was at the dealer yesterday and we looked at other XE's and found the same seats as mine.. it appears that the manual and 'quick start guide' have it wrong as they show the side bolster and seat cushion adjustment as the only seat available on the XE.. mine does not have this so they would be the 10/x10 you mention and not the 14X14, assuming I am understanding your comments.

And yes, it should be an option as it would make the cabin more comfortable.. at this point I really like the car ... good brisk acceleration, now that its broken in and the various magazine reviews that claim its one of the best or the best handling sedan of its type are correct.

I'm finding the XE R Sport seats as good as anything I've had in a Jag, a nice balance of comfort and support with good side bolsters, though the leather could be a little more premium. The comfort level might depend on what "memory pack" you have.
We own a Volvo S60 T5 and I don't find the seats to be anything special. They are comfy, but I haven't been able to adjust the seating positing to not hit me knees or be very comfortable over all.

Maybe I have a "volvo" body. It was really going backwards getting out of the s60R into my first XF (in seats, everything else was better in the jag). But the s60R had much chunkier (and comfier) seats than the current crop of volvos http://images.gtcarlot.com/customgal...r/62636835.jpg

I found the seats in my missus' V40T5CC to be really good too, much better than the s40T5. Maybe the leather quality, but they were very supportive but had some give too.

I didn't find the standard seats in the S60 to be that great either. However the R Design sport seats are something else. I hated getting back in my BMW sport seats after the test drive.

Here's some info on those seats

Jaguar R sport seats are also very good, but Volvo R Design is noticeably better.

The leather in our S60 is not that great either. The T6 version or some other higher specs have nicer leather which I associate with the marque (along with Saab).

The Jag salesman was saying the dash on the XE is leather, but it is not. It's quite clear from the XE catalog with all the swatches; what is leather and what is not. Not that, it is bad or putting down the car, but the salesperson should be accurate and honest.

I don't think they are dishonest when it comes to features (that usually happens only when negotiating pricing), but they are usually clueless/misinformed. Part of the problem is that these guys don't stay in a job that long any more, and another issue is that there are too many models to track nowadays, so even for enthusiasts, there can be information overload.

I wish manufacturers would provide better specs on their website, but my guess is that between cost cutting, introducing too many models, and frequently making changes to trims/specs, even they cannot keep up with disseminating accurate information on the website. Websites are often incomplete or have inaccuracies.

Yes, the best volvo leather I saw was the semi analine that they used to have in the s80 and the s60R.

The dash cover is a bit of a disappointment in the XE. In ours (and in my f-type) it is imitation. It is harder to clean than real leather because bits of fluff stick to it a bit, and it gets an artificial smell to it if you leave the car in the sun for a while. First world problems I suppose, but in that respect it isnt as nice as the XKR.
