Default Programming a new spare key

I got a quote to replace my spare key from dealership and paid for it. Suddenly the dealership tell me I need to buy a kvm which was not in the quote to program the key. They are refusing to honour their quote and I don’t have the money. The other key is working perfectly. did they do something to the kvm to block it from accepting the new key? It’s money making stunt. Is there another way to get this key working/programmed without replacing a perfectly working kvm

Folks have mentioned using locksmiths to do this, which I never would have thought of in a million years. May be different in other countries, but I guess some locksmiths have the tools the program smart keys.

But on the F-type forum, I think there have been some folks who ended up replacing the KVM and key fobs.

Also, ensure the new key fob has the emergency metal key inside. This is especially true when buying a used Jag.

What? I had a new key FOB + programmed last Feb on my XF & the dealer just charged me for the transmitter & labor (programmed). That's all!
The KVM replacement your dealer recommended sounds fishy to me. Unless they goofed on something while programming the Key FOB.

Contact your local Auto Locksmith - normal price is around £150 with the key supplied and coded.

EDIT:
Unless it's a facelift XE then it's different.

I also think they messed it up snd want me to pay for third mistake. Im is ZA and it’s difficult to make the brand owners know what is happening down here. Any suggestion how to get the UK big bosses to intervene. I’m desperate

On that scenario on the link you provided, the OP bought a used 2017 XE at auction without any keys.

But bokkie (OP)'s situation on this thread he started, he had a key, he drove to the dealer to get a spare key
