Default Coolant Level Rises When Removing Reservoir Cap

I have a 2015 3.0 AWD Sport with 65K miles. I have had a 2 coolant leaking issues in the past (needed to replace water pump 1st time, then needed to replace thermostat the 2nd time). Both times before, my low coolant light would come on. This time, I noticed my coolant level just below the cold fill range line after driving all day long. However, I took the the reservoir cap off (slowly), heard a lot of air get released, then the coolant level rose to the hot fill range line, showing the reservoir pretty much full.

I do not see any signs of leaking coolant anywhere within the engine compartment, unlike the times before. I do have a slight smell of coolant when I get out of the car after driving but it could be my "imagination" since I am hyper-sensitive due to my past coolant issues.

Is the coolant level rising when taking off the cap normal? This is my 3rd XF and I have had to replace a water pump on all 3 for leaking coolant...FRUSTRATING, but I keep buying these cars, so I guess I am to blame!

Thoughts???

While unlikely on 2015 car, if you also see bubbles coming up when running engine with the cap off, then it could indicate head gasket failure with exhaust leaking into cooling system and over-pressurizing it.

Wonder if you have an air lock , try take cap of then run the engine for 10mins . Keep an eye on the level. Do this from cold start in morning

Still have the faint smell of coolant, so I took it back to the dealer. They found a very small leak coming from one of the hoses/connecters going into the heater core. Small leak and would just burn off so I never saw anything. Scheduled to be fixed next week, hopefully once and for all (I Hope). Glad the car is a Certified Pre-Owned still under warranty, I hear this repair is labor intensive and very expensive!

After a new hose (going into heater core) no other issues since. The leak so small and would burn off, that is why I never saw anything. The mechanic told me multiple times that you should never smell coolant, if you do there is a leak somewhere.
