Default Problem with Headlamp Ballast

Hello:

2016 XF Presitge Headlamps. I replace both headlamp assemblies with OEM replacements and both of the ballasts (igniter’s) blew out. I was very careful in making sure I had the correct replacements. I have another pair on the way but I don’t want to have the same problem. Of course, I am assuming both lamps were good from the manufacturer.

Any idea of why both ballast could have blown at the same time? I checked fuse and all is ok.

Are you doing a conversion from Xenon to LED headlight or vice versa? I seriously doubt these headlight assmblies are plug n' play.

No, I am replacing a set of HID’s due to a front end accident. The repair folks got in a set and they looked great but did not work. They told me both ballasts were bad. I have a hard time putting my head around having two lamps with a blown ballast on each. I checked wiring and voltage and everything seems to be ok up to the pigtail plug. I just don’t have a good feeling about this. The car was perfect in every aspect and one would have been hard pressed to find a paint swirl or imperfection. Oh well, no point on dwelling on it. Thanks for the input.

Could be the bulb. Make sure it's HID for 2016 XF

That’s another good point. I have been trying to research the headlamp assembly and what the last two letters mean on the part number for the assembly. From what I understand the last two letters are the modifications to the assembly.

This is a pic of the assembly installed

Anyway it is back at the collision specialist. Going on 2.5 months.

All Jaguar parts depend on the last 6 digits of your VIN. Please be aware the days of swapping parts blindly is LONG gone!

Do you have JPART which is free on this forum?
It allows you to use the Factory Jaguar JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog) this is the same system the dealer uses.
I see for the XF there are RHD and LHD plus HID and non-HID lights.

You mention HID's and I see your in the US so LHD. Without the last 6 of the VIN I don't know where your car falls?
See all the options for your head lights? This is from JEPC?

They break over at S20752. Is your car before or after this number?
Is there anyway you can get a look at the old broken lights? That can be a help too.

Again here are more options you need to consider? From the JEPC under "USA".

Again note the changes based on your VIN.
C2Z3477 is the LH headlamp. C2Z3469 is for the RH for cars up to R46177.

Sometimes those part number stickers don't do any good either.

This is excellent information. I can’t find JPART for download on the site. I can find reference to it in posts but the link no longer works I think.

my last six is Y12181. And no, the shop already tossed out the headlamps. I asked them that a few days ago. From research I told them the same thing about different lamps. They just don’t get it. What I find Ironic is the vehicle has been flawless in every way. Now the shop has it all screwed up.

Here is the JPART thread from the guy that made it. Sure glad he spent the time and effort to fix this mess caused by the shut down of Adobe Flash Player!
JPART To Use With JEPC

I just checked and it's all working and the link to JPART.ORG is still valid?

Not sure why your car starts with Y as this does not seem to match what JEPC has with S and N numbers?
Maybe I am in the wrong section?
