Default window reset

So, the drivers side window on my 2018 Sportbrake has begun stopping about 3mm short of being fully seated in the upper surround, producing a whistle. I find no obstruction, and have tried the reset procedure with no effect. Must I first disconnect the battery to erase the window memory prior to resetting? Also, the manual states that "special tools" are required for battery removal.... actually true or just a "see the dealer" ploy? Never before seen a battery require more than ordinary tools and caution but am always wary of delicate and expensive electronics. Unless there's a shortcut here I suppose I'll have to reprogram every configuration in the vehicle along with the windows.

The end-of-travel shut-off for the window motors is determined by monitoring the current draw of the motors. Each time it switches on a window motor, the door module measures the window motor current for a preset time. The maximum value measured within that time is stored as the switch-on current. When the window motor current next exceeds the switch-on current, the door module assumes the window has reached the end of its travel and switches off the power supply to the window motor even if a window switch is still being activated. You will have to disconnect the battery the erase this maximum value from memory. Unfortunately this will also erase other "learned" setting from memory.

The warning about battery removal is because of the BMS (Battery Monitoring System). This should be reset following the installation of a new battery but is not a problem when disconnecting/reconnecting the same battery.

Graham, thanks for the quick and cogent reply. It does lead to the question of eventual battery replacement procedure, DIY or not?

Several XK owning members (XK has the same BMS) report having replaced batteries without any apparent issues. When mine needs replacing, I'll DIY and then check with Jaguar SDD for any related error codes just to satisfy my curiosity.

The BMS module measures battery current and voltage which it sends to the CJB (Central Junction Box) over a LIN (Local Interconnect Network) bus connection. The CJB transmits the battery information to the IP (Instrument Pack) over the medium speed CAN (Controller Area Network) bus. The IP acts as the gateway between the medium and high speed CAN bus networks and transmits the battery condition information to the ECM over the high speed CAN bus. Based on the information received from the BMS module, the ECM controls the output from the alternator and signals the switch off of electrical loads if necessary. I suspect this massive additional complexity was Jaguar's attempt to avoid the requirement for owners to keep their low use vehicles on a battery tender. If so. it hasn't worked!

If a fault is detected, the ECM overrides the BMS module so the charging system then behaves as if it wasn't there.

Mine did the same thing.
I thought it was the seal was the issue.
I took it to the dealer and was told they had to reprogram it.
Glad this this is under warranty.
