Default Unable to reset passangewr window

Any ideas as to what to look for when the passenger window will not hold a reset on a 1999 XK8 coupe?

I would assume the door module. They are the same left and right. Swap them and see if the problem changes sides.

Do you have a pic of what the door module? If not I'll go by the parts counter @ JAG and get one from them.

This problem is often caused by a weak battery voltage. 10.5 or below they loose memory settings. I would check this first.

I have a new 1 month old interstate battery in the car. But it has been sitting for about 2.5 weeks and driven twice. The temp has been in the teens at night and twenty during the day. It won't hurt to put the charger on it @ 2 amp overnight. Can I do a maintain charge like this without removing from the car? What they hey I got to reset everthing any way I'll just take it out.

But it is just the passenger door only! Drivers door is fine.

I'll keep you posted.

With regards to the module can it be cracked and just retip the circuit board?

Each window will lose memory independently but I do not know if they have independent control boxes. I suspect that they are. Now if you are going to store the car for an extended period of time you should get a trickle charger. I understand Home Depot has them for $15.00.

They are on the door I think around the window switches. However I would check the Voltage thing first. Pulling the door panels is not fun...

I put the battery on the charger. My charger has settings so I started it at 10 amps and let cycle down to 2amps over a 5 hour period. Reset the windows and the first reset held. We'll see how the day goes.

As far as the door panel removal goes they are pretty easy once you know where the hidden screws are!

I forgot I had this situation before when I had issues with corroded positive and negative cables.

If there is some door panel removal procedure (better yet one with photos), this would be great to post in the FAQ section. There was once a procedure posted there but the photos are missing.

The hidden screws are under the leather bit between the hand cup and switches. I did a reply to a post about how to remove the panels early on to joining this site. I'm searching the logs for that. Found it!

Only because I could not find this on line anywhere and had to stumble thru this on my own. These are the tools you need. KD door panel removal tool. ( if you do not have this you can use any 90 degree angle spring steel tool.) This KD tool is a small tool about the size of a 6" putty knife with no handle and has a 90 degree bend on one end, all of the edges are very smooth and rounded. Phillips head # 2 screw driver about 8" long, and a 90 dergee angle pick kind of like a dental tool. Remove the screw plug from the door handle socket using the pick. Remove phillips screw and escution will become loose. Lift handle to remove escution. If equiped remove speaker grille by rear view mirror. there is a stud on the winshield side and a clip on the door mirror side. You will want to squeeze and pull. Squeezing will release the clip and pulling will disengage the stud. BE GENTLE. There is no need to disconnect this it can lay off to the side. Inside the door handle trough remove the black rubber insert. This will reveal a single screw remove this screw. The next two screws are hidden under the power window switch. There is a leather wrapped trim cover held in place with a christmas tree clip just under the power window switch. Pry this out using the KD tool. This exposes another phillips screw. Remove screw. Next pry up and out the power window switch. Be careful this little ******* has metal barb clips to hold it secure. If you are not carefull you could nick the leather. Under this switch you will find another hidden screw. Remove screw. The last two screws hold on the speaker cover. They are exposed on the bottom of the speaker grille. Remove these two screws. Next insert the KD tool starting at the bottom of the door panel on top of the weather stripping and underneith the door panel and apply anglular pressure until you hear a pop. there are 8 studs to release from their sockets along the both sides and the bottom of the door panel. I used the tool and slid it along the panel until I hit a stud, then pry. The studs are located about 1.5" off the edge of the panel. Once all are released the panel will be tied to the door only by the wiring of the courtesy light which you may or may not choose to remove. Now do your thing and throw it all back together!

Hidden screws is what bit my installer for the wood trim piece for the window switch. There's a little trick to it, but no biggie. I've got pictures of all the fastening points, just have to write it up. I have a project for the weekend (in between playoff games of course)
