To those 09 xf owners whose warranty will be ending soon, what do you plan on doing when the warranty expires?

Do you guys plan to keep your xf's out of warranty or trade in for a newer model?

The reason I ask is because ive been contemplating getting an xf but the short warranty periods left on the cars in my price range has me a little worried. I plan to finance a good chunk of the purchase price and don't want to be stranded with some kind of big time repair bill and not have the financial room to cover it.

 

I bought mine with no warranty left without hesitation, the motor is a Ford mod motor, the trans is from ZF and the electrics are sorted, heavy Ford influence in the car. Make sure and get all the service history for it to make sure everything is up to date. Search the forum there are a few known issues particularly the shifter, as long as it has been replaced you are good to go! I plan on keeping mine a long time, it is almost 4 years old, has 70k miles on it and still looks and runs like a new car.

 

Just my two cents:
Probably ok to buy without warranty, but...definitely need the service history, and to make sure that the FSB repairs have been completed, otherwise a big $urpri$e might be waiting for you, like as is listed on the forums. Those would be not fun items to pay for out of pocket. Buying from a Jag dealer might allow you to get their 6/100K warranty. I always choose a 2nd model year, after learning once the hard way, and try to get at least 75% of the finance length covered by warranty.

If the private party can show you a Dealer service history for the FSB's, and other good history for regular maintenance, and the price is right, just go for it. They are great cars.

 

Correction, the V8 engine is a Jaguar design taken over by and built by Ford for Jaguar in Wales. The V6 gas engine is a Ford engine modified by Jaguar. Both engines are bulletproof.

The new 5.0 V8 is also a Jaguar design built by Ford in Wales. Jaguar will soon be building their own engines at their new engine plant. The diesels are all JV engines bought in from Peugeot I believe.

I would not hesitate to buy a used XF beyond the warranty. I'm keeping mine and would not hesitate to buy it if it were not mine already.

The depreciation on a new car pays for an awful lot of repairs. Three years depreciation is around 40% of sale price. That's a huge sum for repairs.

 

So the Ford Modular V8's are actually Jaguar designed and not vice versa? I was told by a tuning shop that the 4.2 SC is essentially a 2004 - 2007ish Mustang Cobra motor downsized slightly.

 

The 2.7 (later 3.0) diesel is a Ford design originally produced for PSA group (Peugot etc).

The original 4.0 and 3.2 V8 is a Jag design, so the question remains if the 4.2 is a development of the 4.0 or in fact a new to jag based on the pure Ford?

 

The 4.2L is a stroked 4.0L.

I purchased my '09 with the select warranty coverage, 6 years, 100k coverage. So my warranty runs out in 2014 (car entered service in 2008).

 

Mustang engine is totally different. Is it even four valves per cylinder?

The 2.7 diesel is no longer made and the 3.0 is a new design. The 2.2 is new also.

 

There are variations of the Ford 4.6L that are 2 or 3 valve, but the Mustang 4.6L SC (03-04 Mustang Cobra "Terminator") he was referring to is a 4 valve motor. It had a 4 bolt main cast iron block that could hold gobs of power.

 

My warranty expires in about 9 months as well. I've got 26,500 miles on the car. I usually keep my cars for about 2 years, so was considering purchasing a 1-year warranty. That would give me almost 2 more years. Has anyone been quoted a 1-year warranty? Any idea what that would cost?

 

The extended warranties go up the closer you get to the end of the factory warranty. At least that's what I was told.

 

For those that have purchased after-market warranties, would you mind sharing what companies you have used and why? Price-points would be helpful also.

I has Easy Care..Gold..on the S-Type. Too many price variations to list so you may want to call and check them out. I had to use it one time at the dealer and the service guy took care of everything, nooo problems.

I just bought an '09 XF Premium Luxury with the CPO extended warranty... keeping it under warranty until 9/2013. I plan to sell by then. My living situation next year may make it an unnecessary hassle to own a car, so hopefully will get good value out of my car when I sell. If I do decide to own a car, I might just trade it on on an '11 XF Portfolio if I can find one with low miles (under 20k) at a good price to have the complimentary maintenance...who knows what the future will bring?
