2009 XF Rear Differential Leak
My daughter has a 2009 Jaguar XF with a rear differential leak. It is my understanding that a majority of these have been recalled, but her number is not one of them. I have had it a our local Jaguar dealer and they want to replace the differential and drive shaft for a price of $6100. I currently have it with a local mechanic and Jaguar will not help him out in any way to get it fixed. I have call Jag in New Jersey, several times and they repeat the same line, "Take it to your local Jaguar deal and they will replace it." Does anyone know who makes the rear differentials or where I could get a parts break down for them. The mechanic has purchased (2) differentials from salvage yards and neither one of them are the same as the one in her car. If anyone has any information on this to get the car fixed at a reasonable price, it would be greatly appreciated. You can e-mail me at tntrecycling (at) consolidated.net and I will get back in touch with you. Thank you so much.

Welcome to the forum.
I've moved your post from the Forum Feedback/Help section (that area is not for technical issues with cars) The XF section is where you need to be.
Hopefully someone who knows a bit more about these diffs can help. But if it's a leak (from the driveshaft or pinion seals) then those seals should be available from Timken or a similar supplier, I recently found some seals for my XJR from Timken.

I'm pretty sure it is a Dana.
However, the specific model will be for the Jaguar XF. I think the same diff goes in the complete range of Jaguars as they all now use the same drivetrains.
You're better off dealing with Jaguar as some courtesy contribution may be forthcoming if Jaguar can see there was a manufacturing fault.
The issue with the defective diffs was carborundum residue not flushed out of the diffs on assembly by Dana. Jaguar may honour the extended warranty even though you are out of time.
They won't if you use an indy.

Here is another thread someone posted with the same issue: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-e-l-p-110186/
Does your mechanic not have one of the subscriptions? If not, then you should be concerned that he's flying blind.

Just replacing the seals will not fix the problem. Ask me how I know. The seals begin to leak because play develops in the axle shaft due to pinion wear, which resulted from the contamination problem at the factory. Jaguar's fix was to replace the entire assembly with a redesigned unit. The new unit's case is different and as a result the axle shafts are a different length. I'm going through this with my dealer right now and at this point after replacing the seals, they are refusing to acknowledge the differential is still leaking even though there is fluid all over the bottom of the car in the vicinity of the rear axle. It all starts again tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.
