2009 XF trunk won’t open
I closed my trunk the other day and drove home. When I arrived I noticed the truck indicated it was still open. I got out and the trunk is closed. Any ideas why it would indicate open. This keeps my smart key from being able to lock the car. I thought it might be a fuse but unfortunately I can’t determine which fuse; the owners manual doesn’t specifically state “trunk fuse”. I need some help please.
Most likely the wiring harness that connects the lock, lights etc in the trunk lid. If you open it (might need to do so manually using emergency key blade - see user guide) there is a rubber boot near the right hand hinge. Pull it back (you might need to cut a small rubber piece to get it to slide back) you'll prob find one or more of the wires are frayed / broken. You can easily splice if you're handy, else a new harness is probably $100 or so
Same thing happened to me about a month ago. When I was using the key, I needed to push down on the trunk while turning the key - and it opened. Ended up being the infamous broken wire in the wiring bundle. Easy fix (solder and heat shrink) - and reinforced the other wires. Good luck.
