Hey Guys, So my radiator fan has stopped working. Engine overheats at idle, and AC cold air turns warm. Everything corrects itself once car is moving and cool air goes through the radiator. When I turn AC on, the fan doesn't turn on. Is there anyway for me to pinpoint my issue? Is it the whole radiator fan assembly? Maybe just a switch or some wiring? I have an Icarsoft LR v2.0 scanner.. are there any tests I can run or data I can see that will help me pinpoint a culprit?
If you have a scanner, try scanning PCM to see if you get any codes
Try checking the fuse - 30A mini fuse, Engine junction box #42
Also check the ground behind/below the RH headlamp assembly, clean the ground stud and eyelets from the wiring and reassemble, then recheck to see if the fans come on
Lets see what you get first then dig deeper if we have to
Do you have a copy of the Workshop Manual?
If not you can get it from my Dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bet26xniua...kshop.pdf?dl=0
Without checking I am fairly sure it contains the procedure for diagnosing and fixing your problem.
In my experience, most if not all cooling fan failures are down to failure of the fan control unit which is built into the fan itself, and unfortunately I have not been able to find a suitable replacement for just the unit, or indeed how to repair it. The control unit receives a PWM signal from the ECU, which dictates the duty cycle that the fan needs to spin at, and the control unit varies the fan speed accordingly.
This leaves two options, either finding a used fan from a breakers, or buying one new, and the prices are basically offensively expensive for what is just a cooling fan, with even non-OEM copies going for $900.
Wow guys thanks for the advice, will try to work through this , this week. Will report back my finding (if any).
In case I need to resort to finding a cooling fan assembly to replace, are there any compatible cars I can look at? Any compatibility between the naturally aspirated 5,0? Or the range rover 5.0 supercharged ?
Actually from some shopping in rockauto, I have found that the 5.0 NA and 3.0 SC share the same part.
Here are some options from rockauto
I'd still take that one with the broken mounting tab so long as the fan itself works - it's trivial to swap the fan motor/blades from the replacement into your original housing with a working tab.
Also that second fan is (I imagine) for a 4.2l engine as the fan motor/connector is different, so it won't work for this application.

Good to know and I had contacted the vendor so he would not sell a bad part. He removed the ad for the entire fan shroud and planned on listing just the motor/blade assy. If you contact him I am sure he will sell you just the motor/blade assy. Probably even cheaper!

Who wants to pay 1000 bucks for a new fan assembly
Look, I didn’t want to pay out the booty for a new assembly. So I found a high flo fan from auto zone. Wired it to a toggle switch going from the original radiator fan hot and ground and now I have had a good working fan for 6 months with no issues. It doesn’t throw a engine light but it does show a fan control code with a code reader, but no pesky check engine light to bug me and I just remember to hit the switch when I’m idling. Problem half solved. I suppose I’ll worry about a oem one if I decide to ever sell it. But I probably wont
