Default 2010 XF starter stays engaged

Has anyone had their 2010 XF 5.0 NA starter stay engaged? It happens every time I start the car for the first time every day I have to keep shutting it down by pressing the ignition button at least 5 times after that it will finally start normally. Does anyone know what the problem is ?

If not a problem with the starter motor, it could be a sticking solenoid, or solenoid relay for starters.

And guess how you fix the solenoid? Replace the starter.

The relay is worth checking along with the rest of the starter circuit if the initial diagnosis doesn't point to a faulty starter. The correct testing process would need to be followed, not just replace parts and hope for a quick fix.

Yes, I guess if you had no mechanical/auto electrical skills and the funds available, the obvious solution is to just replace parts until you hit the jackpot.

If you were in similar circumstances, would you honestly just throw another starter in one of your cars Mr Lotusespritse before properly diagnosing the problem? This was your advice to the OP? Perhaps you have experienced this problem yourself and base your advice on this being a common problem. If so, please share.

Based on odds. 99.99% chance the starter needs replacement instead of a stuck relay. Not really how relays fail, but must be fun for you to think about these things.
