2010 XFR coolant pump failure
Well thats just fantastic!!
Dreaded coolant pump failure on my 2010 XFR tonight so she's parked up and out of action......luckily i caught it because of the smell of coolant and spotted the leaks around the pump when i got home.....
Now the bad news is i'm out of warranty so anyone replaced theres or had the dealers do it??? Looks like a fairly simple job as i could only see four torx bolts holding it on.
Thanks guys....

Mine was replaced just before I bought it, but if you're wanting to give it a shot, this is a good place to start - You can get the complete service manual for our car.
2010/2011 XFR Workshop Manual 5.0L S/C [Jaguar XFR X250]
I think Rock Auto sells the pump new.

Well at least you saved your engine. Good on you, worth the money, no doubt.

I would also have them replace the outlet tube & o-ring. It is a small straight tube that connects to the pump. A inexpensive $13 dollar part that should be replaced at the same time. The plastic becomes brittle with age.
Hmm.....
There seem to be rather too many water pumps that fail on these 5-litre V8 engines.
What miles on the car ? If low, and service history is OK, it might be worth making a fuss to Jaguar.

Yes. It's a well know problem. Mine did 30k before failing. Some on here have been through two pumps. Same on my Land Rover (same engine). Apparently they might be using a redesigned pump now but not seen it confirmed. So it's unfortunately but seems to be a poor design or manufacture of the part itself

Didn't I read that these 5.0 engines use reverse cooling to get the engine up to temp quicker?
If so, does that mean that instead of pulling cold water out of the radiator and pushing into the engine, that it sucks superheated water out of the block and forces into radiator to be cooled?
If so, could that be extra hard on the pump having to deal with higher temps than a "normal" pump system?
I too had to have the pump replaced on my 2010 at 60k and the service history showed it was also done at 28k.
Hopefully my current 2013 (only has 7k miles now) will not experiance do a failure your a long time. But I am always cognizant of smelling for the sweet smell of escaping hot coolant.

Have a full main dealer service history.
Now what i would like to see is the durability assesment report for the pump. There would have been a requirement for this during the design phases.
