Default 2016 Caddy CTS-V......HELP!

Been looking at pics and reading the specs on the upcoming Caddy CTS-V. I'm not sure if it's the HP/Torque numbers or the styling but I feel like I gotta have it. Need a few of you faithful Jag guys to talk me out of it. Doesn't help that my 2010 XFR is starting to show it's age (or maybe I've just grown used to looking at it every day). In any event, I need a couple good reasons NOT to jump ship and head over to the GM product. Figured you guys could help, so let me hear it!

My wife had a 2011 CTS coupe. It was a piece of junk. They never could get the wind noise out of it. My brother who was deaf in one ear and the service manager could hear it. Cadillac sent their so called field engineer to check it out. He drove it and sent an e-mail to the service manager and said it was "within tolerance". Would not even talk to the service manager or my wife and me. Coustomer satisfaction at its finest. Would not do anything till we threatened to put lemons on it and call the attorney general. Cadillac USA would not do anything, dealer replaced it with an ATS and screwed her on the lease. I hate Cadillac and never want to see anything by GM. I don't care if the new CTS V has 1000 HP and is made out of gold. They can keep the dam thing. We love our XF and would not trade it for any dam Cadillac.

Yeah Cadillacs seem awesome on paper but are honestly pretty average to own. I had a CTS 3.6DI premium prior to this car and cross shopped the XFR with the prior gen CTS-V (among others). I did not pull the trigger on it because it was exactly like my car which I had more quality control issues with than any other car I have owned. A few of issues I had with it:
- Random electrical issues, navigation that wouldn't turn off and kill the battery
- Dead coil pack at 40k miles
- Leaky sunroof
- Leaky third brake light in trunk
- Leather physically peeled off of the back of the driver seat

GM hasn't changed much since then and Cadillac as a company is in serious trouble so it wouldn't give me a lot of confidence in owning a car like that with more stuff that could go wrong. That's just my $0.02 though! Read through the Cadillac forums General section and you will see tons of threads about issues people are having their CTS's.

All GM cars feel cheap when new, and really cheap after a year or more.

The feel of the modern Jag is that of true premium-ness compared to any GM product.

Well, the engine/transmission combo will be better than the XFR for sure, call me a push rod fanboy, but the interior not so much.

Not sure if you have modded your car or not. If not, get a tune and pulley. It will make the car much more responsive and really have more power than you can use outside of a track. Then you'll have the quality with the power!

I'm waiting for the new aluminum XFR as well. Can't imagine the hp and torque I have now, with a 500 lb diet. What is the ratio? For every 7 lbs lost you get an effective increase of 1 hp. So that would be about 70 hp...stock. Then tune and pulley and it would be the best of all worlds.

So my advice is mod then wait. Plus you usually don't want the first year of any new model, so even if you decide against the new XFR, the Caddy will be more sorted.

Couldn't agree more. A buddy has a ctsv, when I sat in it I wasn't impressed with the style and it was near as comfortable as the xfr. I was falling out of love with mine a little while back so I decided to drop some money on a few goodies and fell right back in love with her.

Based on *existing* models I chose the XFR-S over the CTS-V. I was underwhelmed by the *existing* CTS-V.

Fast forward. The new ATS-V with the turbo looks kick-*** (have you considered it as well?) The new CTS-V? Depending on price I would reconsider without a doubt! I think the drive-off depreciation is going to be about the same on both the Caddy and Jag. But if you're looking for *****-to-the-wall acceleration the 65x HP of the Caddy is going to dominate all of the Jags out there. Jag -- are you listening?

What would it be like thrown fast round banked corners, on twisty roads and so on?

Good to support US industry, though, help keep GM in corporate jets...

I'll be curious of what the new XF weighs, the XE should give us a hint. To me the CTS styling isn't anything special, it has the stance of the E-Class which I'm not that fond of. I'm sure the V will be a hoot to drive, though.

The one thing that I always missed on American up-market models (Corvette too) was the differentiation from the base models. For most people it looks like a normal base CTS costing nearly half. For that extra costs they should really not skimp on styling and deliver that upmarket looks with enough differentiations in exterior styling that would be obvious.

The new ATS and CTS both look dated already, the 2nd gen CTS I owned now looks really dated. Even the last gen XFR has timeless, classy styling...You don't generally find that with American cars

Cadillac ATS-V has impressive numbers on paper. HP/Torque is cool. Front end grille mesh (jag) is so much better than in the past. Side vents look like jags. But why o why have they got that stupid childish hood scoop - why not vents (like jag) Rofl.

A smorgasbord of Mercedes, BMW and Jag (not acknowledged)

I came from the GM camp to Jag and while the Caddy's are nice, the Jag just screams CLASS! That the Caddys have not had since the 60's and 70's. And anything over 550hp is just bragging rights anyways since you'll NEVER be able to LEGALLY use more than 400hp on a daily basis.

I have to agree. Driving my XKR, if I just breathe on the throttle I am already risking my licence :-).

For pure driving fun, something like a Miata actually works better; you can have the great handling, the thrills of manual shifting and the sense of performance driving, all at near or close to the speed limits.

The CTS-V looks cool on paper but a Cadillac simply doesn't have the cache or prestige that Jaguar has.....

The styling of the CTS-V is awful in the rear half because they simply put it on a stretched ATS frame....the rear overhangs are so big that 19 inch rims still look tiny.

The scary thing is that Jaguar is doing the exact same thing with the new XF. They are putting it on a stretched version of the XE platform and will increase the size of the overhangs....it's either going to be nice looking or dreadful....

Let's pray that Ian Callum shakes off the conservative bug that affected the styling of the XE...

Novelty wears off anything after certain period of time.

That would be a backward move, keep yours or wait for the 2017 XF. I am sure it will be AWD in R form which is great
