Default AC Issues

The AC on my 2012 XFR has been acting strange. On really hot days it will either cool the cabin within 5 minutes or take about 20 minutes to reach a "cooling" temp. I have noticed that at idle it tends to blow warmer air but once in motion the air tends to cool. If I come to a stop light the air will warm up again. Inconsistent for sure but wondering what it could be. Any ideas guys?

Not yet. Plan to take it in for service soon.

Had the issue with my 2009 supercharged a while back, the compressor eventually failed, had it replaced and good for 2 years now. originally thought it was gas, but it wasn't. My sister is having the same issue now with her Landrover that uses a similar compressor.

So did you get the AC service? Or did it fail because AC service was not performed but symptoms were present? I wondering IF by getting the service done I can extend/minimize any collateral damage with the AC system.

Have you checked to see if your fan is running when the AC is on?

Yes, got the service. It didn't really help.

Agreed, you’ve got to check if the fan is running with the ac switched on

I also had issues with my A/C blowing warm air. It turns out that there is a sensor on A/C blower motor which can be replaced rather than the whole motor. Once this was replaced, the motor switched on and I regained the A/C.

SO I dropped off the XFR for an AC Service at my local independent shop. They performed the AC service and confirmed freon is at the correct level (no re-charge) required. It appears the temp sensor integrated with the compressor is causing the issue. They said you can't just change the temp sensor (dealer confirmed) and that the following would need to be done:

REPLACE AC COMPRESSOR (C2D 38105) $599.95
LABOR $444.80

REPLACE RECEIVER DRIER (XR8 56373) $345
LABOR $500.40

EVACUATE AND RECHARGE A/C SYSTEM -ADD DYE TO SYSTEM AND CHECK FOR $59.85
FR/ SER6330 FREON -R134A $39.90
YD YELLOW DYE $19.95

Total of $2050

You can definitely find parts cheaper then what you listed online. Shop the parts, then you can get estimates for labor only. You can save alot.

I would check for that sensor, as i know there was a service bulletin for that part on the 2009. It was replaceable when they were in warranty. Not that you want to replace on an old compressor. However i agree aftermarket compressors are cheaper. you can even get an OEM cheaper than that. I would look for another Indy. Dealer prices are insane.
