Arrow Affordable Android infotainment system

I'm looking for an affordable way to update the infotainment system in my late 2008 XF. Maybe I'm wrong, but there is a 10x price increase in the same technology just cause its made for Jaguar.

Look at this example:
https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32844...ankId:11789013

I understand it lacks functionality, but for the huge price difference, I was wondering if anybody has experience with installing a "universal" infotainment system? Any chance to get some basic car options to work, or is it really necessary to get the at least 500 euro equivalent?

Thanks!

Keep searching on the X351 site. Someone did install this and did an exceptional job of documenting it. I am looking for the same thread.

Is it really necessary to put down that amount of money, when there are universal players available for 10x, 20x cheaper? It feels to me like outdated prices, and an extra markup cause you ride a jaguar, thus you must have the money type of situation.

I've already come up with a cheap *** solution which comes close, there are cd-player mount tablet holders, so I could use that to hold a tablet in place of the original lcd. But it lacks the car control options.

Maybe I just need to wait longer.

The likely main reason for the price difference will be the required interface to the MOST bus for the car controls, along with the fact that there's probably likely only one manufacturer actually making these units that will work with our cars.

People have tried to achieve this using a basic android unit + canbus interface but AFAIK it was unsuccessful, so I don't think there's much choice here

They're not actually universal. If they were they'd plug right up & work.
