What type of fluid is recommended for the diffs? I'll pick some up and make sure it's still full.

I'm feeling the rumbling described in this chain. Does anyone know if there's a spec fluid for the 09 SC diff? Also, how do I get to the plug, or do I (never been a mechanic) need a shop to do it?

Don't think so. There have been a number of 2010's that have needed it as well.

So can I assume that 2011+ are all good?

This seems entirely focused around the XF Supercharged models. I'm about to purchase an '09 XF with 55K mi, is this something to look for in that car to? would a replaced diff under warranty show up on carfax?

I think it was all of the 09s. I'd check the axles for leaks near the diff and listen for any noises. Even if it seems fine spend $50 swaping out the fluid. It takes about 15 minutes with a bottle of fluid and a pump. There might be an external marking you can check on to see if it was upgraded. I'd say chances are the vast majority weren't upgraded.

Thanks, I went ahead and had the dealer I'm buying it from swap the fluid. I think I'm going to plasti-dip it in XFR blue and swap out the base model speakers to something that sounds less muddy. But so far i am very happy with the car!

You won't mistake the E-Dif. It's got the big electric solenoid hanging off of it.

Is that the original diff or the replacement? Mine does not look anything like that one. Now I am really confused.

He said it's the E-diff which is the diff in the 5L Supercharged and XFR models.

Well if mine goes once the warr. is done, I'm looking into something like this. From what I've seen the XF's diff is real close to the Jag S-type/ Lincoln LS's as far as parts utilization?

XF is an S Type with a different bodyshell. However, a number of mechanical parts were updated so it would be worth checking MY and VIN with any supplier.

A Quaife Torsen diff would be a big upgrade for the XF without the ELD.

2009 SC had the standard open diff. The ELD was introduced on the R model and only came on cars fitted with the 5.0 supercharged V 8
